Team Billand managed to squeeze in some seal time between their celebrating Christmas with their family.
At 8 this morning Team Billand got to White Plains and there was a fat seal sleeping high up on beach near the fence line. They put up a zone for the critter and after taking a good look they realized it was Pohaku RO28. Getting a good photo was a challenge by the bright sun and spray caused by the pounding waves. In Barbs own words " While trying to focus through the fence, I met a huge spider in a cool web." I guess some folks can look at this spider and think it was cool.
They hung out educating folks, and called the hotline. While on site they met up with some of their old friends on shore. Lots of hugs were shared and how nice to meet up on Christmas day.
At 10:30 am Team Billand arrived at a westside beach and spotted RIP RR70 foraging. There were two more seals there who began fighting with each other.... hmmmm wonder who these two could be? No surprise bosom buddies Ka'ale RH32 and RN14 Kalani. The two buddies were off the reef for an hour before they hauled out on the high rocks.
RIP is looking good, handsome, nice coat, good girth and no new markers. When Ka'ale approached he let him know, GET AWAY FROM ME, and Ka'ale got the message.
Ka'ale tried to come up, but Kalani RN14 was right behind him biting him on his back side. Eventually both made it up on the high rocks to the left side.
Late afternoon all there were still on the rocks basking in peace.
Last but not least at close to 3 they found Lei Ola RH48 alone on the rocks resting nicely. Her tags were visible.
All in all it was a five seal day.
