Team Billand managed to text me a couple of photos but their complete update is unavailable since their computer went kaput.
I was thrilled to get Paul's email today. I have to confess that he left a message this morning and I honestly thought it was from someone else. When I saw Paul's email I realized it was him who called left the message. Either way THANK YOU for sharing these great photos of Kaiwi's kids! The video of RK24 priceless!
Paul spotted RH36/37 Kawena at Lanai Lookout this morning when going for a dive. I guess she has returned from her west side adventure. She's back to her own backyard. Then when Paul got into the water there was RK24, Kaiwi's youngest boy. What a cutie! I know there are going to be lots of Aunties out there happy to see these two back home.
Marilyn sent an update from yesterday, she is pretty certain the "unknown adult" with the 3 CC scars on the back was R353. There was also a scar in front of her LFF. Not sure if she's ever been out to Rabbit Island before.
Marilyn went out to the Pier for about 2 hours early afternoon and spotted 5 seals.
Unknown Molter #1 was on the rocks Lanikai side of Left Point Beach along with a partially hidden by RW22 Kolohe. The molter looked like 2/3 of the ventral area had molted started from the head area. Marilyn was never able to confirm the gender, but she suspects this could be RK72 Kekoa, since
Barbara spotted Buster on the westside.
RW22 Kolohe was with the unknown molter. Kolohe was ID'd by his natural bleach behind his RFF, male belly and his new N22 applied bleach on his back.
Unknown Juvenile, located about 15 feet right of the 1BS. Yellowish belly with some green, 2 tags, possible male belly. Looks to be the same UJ as yesterday.
Unknown male ( subadult to adult), located about 20 feet left of SRI, male belly, newish coat and two tags. This might be R1KT but Marilyn was never able to see his ventral scar or his left shoulder scar.
Unknown Molter #2, located right of the SRI on the rock flats. It appears this seal is molting although it might be a wet and dry coat situation. Marilyn suspects this is a female and the about 2/3 of the belly is molted.
Marilyn also got a call from Paul about Kaiwi's kids off of Lanai Lookout.
Team Billand had a good seal day until they got home and their computer died. Barb texted me photos of their find. The big news of the day was Buster V08 on the west side. Buster was just on Rabbit Island the other day so this boy is on the move, even during his molt.
They of course found little butthead Ka'ale, it appears he was on his own today.
Team Billand also found RIP today perhaps he was at playboy pond again. Also I know there been lots of folks with their eyes on the horizon looking for whales. Well Team Billand got to see one today!
