At 0637, on my first look I found Sadie&Pup(D#12) already in the water at the left end for their first of 2 water sessions. At 3BS I found what would later prove to be Kainoa (RN04) in the Morning Glory, right of 3BS.
When I got back to Makai Pier at 0831, I found a new addition to the cast, at Left Greenery. It would take quite a while but I finally confirmed the RIP (RR70) ID by his transmitter pit scar and transmitter residue patch. He had last been reported at Ka’ena Point, on 5-5-16. I spent the morning trying to make this animal Benny, since he had been at Kaimana the other night and therefore was a possibility to be out this was, but no matter how hard I tried, I could never see one single thing that said Benny. When I saw RIP’s dorsal , I knew it was my #1 son.
At 0920 RM38, showed up for the first time, hauling out to bug Sadie & Pup. He was immediately run off. He would spend the day making multiple haul outs to every other cast member, and each time it was the same result. Either barks or battle, and then back to the water.
RIP too would visit Kainoa and Sadie &Pup and he too was either run off, or given the cold shoulder.
At 0932 animal hauled out to 1BS and galumphed up and into the Morning Glory area left of 1BS. The birds were not happy about that. Later , when she had moved back down, RIP hauled out to join her. They were together the rest of the day.
By far the most interesting moments of the day came at 1310. Sadie &Pup had been at the far left end of the beach all day, but on their 2nd swim session, Sadie decided that they would haul out fronting 1BS, in exactly the location where RIP and Nani were snoozin’. I don’t know if it is possible for a seal to “trip” but that is what it looked like as Sadie&Pup began moving directly at their location RIP and Nani were falling all over each other trying to get the heck outta’ their way.
Gayle also had a bumper crop of finds today in the Maunalua Bay area. At 1054 she reported what would turn out to be Buster (RV08) at China Walls. While she was there she changed to spy a small , green critter doing a “drive by” at CW. Analysis of her shots confirmed the Cass (RG06) ID.
At 1109 Gayle found Kaiwi (RK96) , once again at the Kokee Flats.
Team Billand called at 1018 with the report of a foraging Pohaku (RO28) off shore of Campbell Industrial Park.
Carola mail at 1821 advised that she had spent the day with RI37 at Kuilima Cove, Turtle Bay.
