It was a 2 in 1 mission day
We have received several calls in the last few days about a seal out on the Mokes. Photos have IDed R016 "Right Spot" by her N6 bleach.
The opportunity to go and check on her came by an invitation of DOFAW and KSK to be part of the Wedge-tailed Shearwater chick and burrow count out on Na Mokulua.
We first paddled out to Moku Iki where we started the survey then to Moku Nui.
We could see the seal on the beach at Moku Nui looking from Moku Iki.
I IDed R016 by her natural bleach spot on the right side, her N6 bleach and by the notch on her hind flipper.
She looks healthy and has started her molt visible by “cracks” on her chest ~5%
Special thank you to KSK for an outstanding support, outreach and reports. For providing the kayaks (& lunch) for the survey.
And also to DOFAW/DLNR, Amarisa and team for the invitation to once again work with you
It was tiring but fulfilling day !
