*** your regularly scheduled nightly blog posting was interrupted by a power outage in Kailua on Wednesday evening. I was unable to get to posting until this afternoon, but at least we have the information available for playing catch up. **** note to self, get a back up blog generator :-)
At 0520 I checked Sandy Beach and picked up the signs from yesterday’s Benny haul out. Benny was gone but would make an appearance later on.
At 0530 I found Kea (RN46) in his channel/tide pool hang out, at the rock flats , 100 yds east of the AD wall. He would exit the pool at 0620 and begin a leisurely swim/forage heading east. By 0652 he had arrived at the flats 200 yds east of the wall, and at 0852 hauled out to the rocks for a snooze at that location. I relocated the SPZ . When Kea decided to got back to the 100 yd flats Karen & Marie had to redo the SPZ. Marie came through with the highlight of the day, with the first documented encounter between Benny (RE74) and Kea, at around 1500. Benny hauled out and nuzzled Kea who was sleeping. Apparently Kea just did a no biggy look at Benny and went back to snoozin" . After several minutes Benny went back to the water and Kea followed. Kea would only go off about 50 ft before turning to haul out again. Benny continued on to the east. Thank You Marie !!
From 0940 - 0943 Benny (RE74) did a swim by, checking the flats just 30 ft away from Kea’s location, and finding nobody continuing on. He always checks the spot where he’d last seen the kid a few days ago. At shift change (1000) I proceeded to Sandy Beach, anticipating the Benny call, but of course he was not there. No... he would wait until my butt hit the chair at the pier at 1046 and the Ocean Safety call came of an animal at Sandy Beach. As usual he was gone when I arrived, having been hounded by people along the water line. I await the next Benny call (and there will be a next).
At 0636 Team Billand reported M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. She would depart at 1652.
At 0826 Dera called to advise that Rocky (RE74) had overnighted at Kaimana Beach. Colleen confirmed that Rocky has begun her molt.
Barbara called at 1012 to advise that posse member Diane had reported Haupu (RB24) at Paradise Cove.
Lesley checked in at 1259 with the report of Ka’ena (RO40) at Ka’ena’s Pool, and RW02 at the main pool, at the end of the world, Ka’ena Point.
At 1427 the Billands found Pohaku (RO28) and Kolohe (RW22) at Electric Beach.
Diane sent some shots of R912&Pup from her session today.
