On my first look at Rabbit Island atd 0718 in the rain and gloom I saw a vague shape at the left side of Rocky Right Beach. When I got back at 0830 it proved to be Kolohe (RW22) and Buster (RV08), tucked into the base of the cliff. They would remain there all day.
Also at 0830 I found Aukai (RL12) once again wedged into some greenery high on the beach at the right side of RRB. She too remained all day.
On a pan at 1136 I found that M38 had joined Kolohe & Buster. All were in snooze mode when I departed.
From 1148 until 1156 there were a couple of unwanted visitors to RI. DOCARE was called, but there was no response.
Team Billand called at 0715 with the report of Benny (RE74) and Kermit (R012) together fronting #1707. They advised that Kermit has begun his molt. Benny would be run off at 0820, however he hauled out again fronting #1708 at 1129.
The Billands reported M&M (R020) hauling out to join Kermit at WP.
Dera called at 1300 to advise that R5AY had been seen, once again at Bath Tub Beach, Laie.
Team Billand reported Kerby (RW08) at Maili Point at 1517.

It was yet another frustrating day with the monks and people. It is so tuff to keep trying to stop folks from going into the zones. With three seals on shore at Plains all week, and sometimes 4, very hard. We try our best to educate all, some are really good and get it. Will admire the seals on shore, BEHIND THE SIGNS. But there are those that gotta get closer, enter zones. Seals will pop up to look at these individuals. How can a seal REST??
Benny left early because of some smart ass talking to the seal LOUDLY. Benny barks, man barks back, so he left. But later came back to another location, still at Plains.
Kermit is molting under his foreflipper at last. I hope he goes fast in his molting. We are trying hard to keep him safe.
M and M came in fast, in the middle of perimeter with Kermit. I was surprised Kermit barked at her. She gave em a look, LIKE, WHAT:??? I just want to park NEXT to you!! She like snobbed him and galumped to the right of him. It was so sweet. Kermit turned, went back to sleep, like OK I'll let it go this time. Boy she is one fat lady, but oh so beautiful. BOth stayed together all day and after sunset.
Sunset draws crowds, with folks running to get a shot of the beauty of the set.Not paying attention to our seals on shore or ropes. Again, we advise folks.
Kermit decides to haul up even higher up to the cabins. We need to adjust the perimeter, take the ropes down..he isnt as fast as Benny, but, we got to be there to keep up with him.
Benny hauls up to grassy area, hears folks yelling, leaps up on his hind flippers, like tippy toe looking over the grass. So cute. He settles. Here comes more morons, he wakes up to look again. He repositions himself over and over.
Makaiwi was at Nimitz yesterday, she stayed to close to 2pm. Then was probably run off as we saw all the footprints close to her wallow. Sorry, Makaiwi, we had 5 other seals to care for.
2AW at tracks. Folks found him, were laying next to him, getting up close and personal...taking funny shots they thought. Poor old dude is gonna molt any second, and he got these MORONS at his face. TOO BAD...But he remains.
Kerby was at his usual spot on the rocks, but, the waves were sensationally HUGE. He got knocked off, he climbed up higher on the dryer spot, clinging on. Wow, amazing to watch, determined seal. Some ladies came over, I advised, they didnt come for him, they wanted shells in area. But I told them, be careful, I nearly got slammed moments ago, WAVES ARE BIG. They also had two DOGS, LOOSE. I stood and watched..they seem ok, so I left poor Kerby for the day. Good luck kid.
Six seals...big waves, many people, dogs, and ONE VOLUNTEER..Glen Cober!!! Appreciate him being out there as when we came back to recheck, Benny had just arrived at 1708. Glen Rob and myself scrambbled to keep him safe from all those people who came running over to see the seals. Glen did great...rob ran for more signs, Benny pratically ran up on shore. He is one fast seal...with balls.
Few minutes later, I spot another seal, next to the Kermits zone. We all ran over, kept folks back, she hauls up next to Kermit, it was action...and Glen was there to help us out...GOD BLESS YOU. THanks from my heart....
6:30pm...ok time to just LEAVE, we did all we could. NOw its up to those humans out there, ready with those cameras and who knows what else...B
