Merry Christmas to All !!! I hope Santa was good to everybody. With slight modifications it was another day in the Monk Seal world here. At 0710 we found M38 in the grass behind Seal Rock Inlet. He was moving down and by the time we got to the pier he was in the water, and in the company of another animal. When I got back to the pier at 0957 he was back to his grassy spot. He would later move down, and remained all day.
At 0717 I found Aukai (RL12) tucked into the base of the cliff at the left end of Rocky Right Beach, on RI. She would remain there all day.
At 0957 I found an U/U out on the left end rock flats of RI. Despite an entire day of observations I was never able to get an ID. The animal just did not move, and gave me nothing to go on. Maybe tomorrow ????
Posse member Susan called at 1020 with the report of an animal at Spitting Cave. There had been nobody there on our earlier look. When I arrived ast 1045 I found Kaiwi (RK96) doing 6 minute dives at the ladder.
At 1210 they found Benny (RE74) fronting #1705, Nimitz Cottages. Dana had reported that she had called Base Police because of reported harassment of the boy, but of course everything was normal by the time they arrived.
The Billand's next find was Kermit (R012) fronting #1706, White Plains.
Dana checked in at 1657 with the report of an U/U in Waialua. Judy&Paul were responding. Awaiting further info.
At 1738 Dana called again with the report of an animal at Turtle Bay. The photo confirmed the RK36 ID.
The Billands called at 1807 to report that they had just found Makaiwi (R4DF), already cordoned off between Tower #1 and the fence line at White Plains.
Two afternoon emails from Dera were the absolute highlight of my day, and the best Christmas present I could imagine (the Lanikai Store tee shirt was great babe, and the pruners and bungee cords right on, but ya' gotta' admit this news was a BIGGY !) Selfishly, I think this along with the other news made my day! Thank you for your support Mr. & Mrs. Whisperer!
RI37 was reported and photo confirmed at Laie today. The reporter had also stated that there had been another animal with her, but that it had been run off.
Now for the rest of the story. As you may recall I mentioned on 12-23-12 in da' blog that a possible RB10 (a Molokai male was with RI37 in Laie). A later email from Dera , which came after the dailies went out , from another source, said that an RB12 tag had been seen. This afternoon Dera forwarded the photos from the 12-23 sighting and lo and behold Sadie's B12 tag is clearly visible. I last saw this girl on 7-8-12, on Rabbit Island . She is the 5 1/2 old , only known daughter of Ewa Girl, born on RI on 4-1-07. Thank you Dera for a great Christmas present (although a Red Ryder BB gun or an Electric Train woulda' be almost as good !! WHOOO!! HOOO!!! Sadie little lady is home for the holidays.
