12-27-2012 DB Dailies

At 0710 I found M38 just hauling out at Rocky Right Beach, and moving up. Once he arrived at the cave where Aukai hangs out, I realized that Aukai (RL12) was in there. She would remain there all day. M38 would move down again and I lost him behind the water front rocks at 0720. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0959 I found that M38 had relocated to 20 ft right of 1BS, on RI, where he remained the rest of the day.

At 0742 I found Buster (RV08) doing 8 minute dives at Spitting Cave. I last saw him on his 0825 up.

Team Billand called at 0728 to report Kermit (R012) hauling out fronting #1707 at White Plains.

They also reported that Benny (RE74) remained up amongst the grass and trees at #1707.

Dera sent email from Bill Nimboy documenting Right Spot (R016) at V-land today.

At 0857 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) hauling out to the fence line, White Plains.

At 1124 Zeeny called to advise that she and Kimo were at Ka'ena Point and had found RK36 and Noa (R6FI) at the end of the world.

Lesley would check in at 1158 with the same report. All reported that RK36 has now lost his last remaining transmitter.

Team Billand called at 1200 to advise that Irma (R010) was just hauling out fronting #1708, White Plains. Once again that is a 4 critter day at WP.

At 1545 the Billands found 2AW at the Waianae Rest Camp.

The Billands reported Pohaku (RO28) at Guard Rails Beach at 1712.

Having four seals on one beach is awesome. We take turns on each animal, advising to be respectful to the beach goers. Its alot of work, alot of talking, some stress when one doesnt be respectful..but most part, we done OK.

And we even got some new volunteers to help us out YESTERDAY. Nicki and John..both were super cool folks to be so nice and even had to sit with all four as we went and did our other beach patrol and found two more seals. SO we are so very GRATEFUL to Nicki and John,GOD BLESS YOU GUYS.

Now, Benny our bad boy seal, overnighted at 1707, as well as FAT BOY, KERMIT. For Kermit, its his third day at this spot, so, we feel he will begin his molt SOON.

Next, came Miss Makaiwi, our darling sweet, precious, female, who hauled out at the same exact spot as the other 3 days...fenceline, Plains.

At 11:45am we spotted a large, s l o w moving seal off shore, heading towards the other 3 seals on shore. It would be at 12 noon when she finally hauled up in front of many people on shore. It was exciting, a little tense to get everyone up and away so MISS IRMA could come a shore. She is huge, her blubber moving like a soft wave of JELLO. She is gorgeous.

Late in afternoon a call from our friend the Lifeguard at Rest Camp, reported a big green seal with a scar on back hauled up. We found it to be the old dude...2AW. He was taped off, coned off, a few orange signs displayed. Hey, what ever protects the Seals, we are very grateful. He too will soon molt.

And our last seal found, our lovely, KoOlina Mascot, R028, Miss Pohaku at Maili Guard Rails. She was getting some good hits with the large waves coming in. But she was perfecly fine. Getting PLUMP guys, HMMMM....eatting good or just .... PREGNANT???? Well if prego, the daddy??? There are three males we know of that persued her...DA BENNY, THe old Dude..2AW, several times. And...the other male..Kerby. Yep...Kerby. Well, guess we just have to wait and see.

Now to find who is on shore at Plains today...should be exciting...we didnt find M and M..maybe she will show up this morning...oh cant wait to see who is out there...we'll get back to you...B

It seems a lot of people trek out to Kaena Point where seals are relatively secure. Couldn't some of these volunteers check first to see if there's a greater need somewhere else, like White Plains?
