I
have pulled on to the Makai Pier every morning of my life for mannnnny years. I
ALWAYS look left and right down the beach, and have NEVER seen an animal, until
today. Today ,at 0643, just to the Waimanalo side of the pier, layeth KC
(RK28). Shock is an understatement. I got her cordoned off and she survived
several hours of Scuba Tour groups and other visitors. Mark came out in hopes of
getting a bleach on her, but alas, just as he prepared the mixture she galumped
to the water at 1106 and off she went, of her own volition. I did not see her
again today.
I got back to normal Rabbit
Island observations once KC left. I'd seen nobody out there until 1226 when
Zeeny and I spied a new arrival, 80 ft right of 3BS. At 1238 he was kind enough
to roll over and show me his big ol' N21 bleach. It was Buster. Unfortunately,
my photos didn't capture the bleach, but it was clearly visible. He was the only
non-winged resident of RI today.
At 0855 Team Billand
reported RIP (RR70) at Maili.
At 0927 Dera called with the
report of an animal at Diamond Head. Colleen Heyer would call at 1103 to confirm
the Irma (R010) ID , at the Black Point end of Diamond Head. Her photos confirm
the ID.
Dera called again at 0933
with the report of an animal at Mokuleia. Dana would check in at 1103 with the
RI37 ID. Judy&Paul Nelson photos confirm the RI37 ID.
At 0952 Team Billand checked
in again with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Electric Beach.
At 1409 came yet another
Billand coup, when they reported R018, Benny (RE4) 7 Noa (R6FI) at Maili Point.
At 1430 RIP (RR70) would relocated to join them.
In the Yesterday's News
departed , a Kelly Girl email advised that N31 (La'akea ,RK82) had been seen the
Wild Life Refuge in Kahuku yesterday. A photo from Dave Ellis, confirmed the ID, but I couldn't get it
downloaded.
KC surprises the seal whisperer
DB once told me that once you think you know what a seal might do.... they do something completely the opposite... This season has been big for unusual haul out locations....
Maybe she needed a nap before her next stop
Which way was she heading? any guesses where tomorrow's visit might be?
Buster alone on Rabbit Island
Irma visits Colleen at Diamond Head - love the blue cones
RI37 @ Mokuleia
She still looking mighty big....
2AW @ Waianae
RO28 @ Electric Beach
Benny @ Maili Point
Noa and Benny @ Maili Point
R018 @ Maili Point
R018 VERY COMFORTABLE @ Maili Point
R018, Benny, and Noa @ Maili Point - why is when ever Benny is involved there is always barking!
Seems like Maili Point is quite the party place this week.... seal spring break!
RIP -don't know if he's coming or going

Maybe someone could have the authorities view this link and educate this idiot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN0vtM5QNdk
Thanks for the video! It's been forwarded to NMFS and OLE to try to ID the seal and follow up on the incident.
What seal is that?
