Starting their day on the west side their first find was a little green seal hauling up on shore. It landed by by the wall on the rest camp side. It was RV20 who was alone. Immediately people came up too close to take pictures. The Lifeguard cam and put out signs and asked folks not to go too close to the seal. Thank goodness!
The Akule boat was at the outfall/tracks area.. Team R&B noticedsomething following the boat and the men were very aware of it. It was a young seal with a clean coat, unsure about tags. Where ever the boat went the seal followed behind. Then they noticed another seal joining in. They were both young but unfortunately they couldn't ID either of them. The boat finally left and so did the seals.
They saw plenty of dolphins, sometimes really busy jumping. They would disappear then back to jumping again. Team R&B shared the fun time with a couple they just met, with lots of cheering.
They got word from a friend of a big seal hauled out at nimitz. They headed over and found Mr. Kawika R407. The ladies from the cabins were delighted and so respectful. Team R&B filled them in on R407 background and stories. They were aware Kawika is David in Hawaiian. The ladies told them they looked like a National Geographic person with boots, walking stick and camera. So sweet.
Back on the west side they stopped thinking there was a seal, but it turned out to be a rock. I know this can happen.... as it often does with me. While there they scanned the area and did see a small seal faraway on the rocks They made their way over and studied the little seal, it had tags but the seal kept flipper flexing too much to get a good look. Finally saw the seal had two white digits on the right flipper. It was RU12/U13. Its been a long time since they had seen her.
Still on the west side they walked along the coast line remembering all the seals they use to find out there, now most of them are gone. They happened to stop for some photos of the waves and they spotted a seal alone sleeping on the rocks. The seal was, Wakea RP28 who got disturbed yesterday. He's okay today and far from tracks where he was yesterday.
