April 17, 2026 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:27 to 1:00 pm and there were nine seals seen during that time.
Marilyn got a text from NOAA that a team from DOFAW & DAR were going to be on RI today for their own work and hopes of getting IDs. When they got to the island this morning they found that RF34 Pua had pupped so now we have PO5. So there are three pups on Rabbit Island all born within a six day period.
When Marilyn first started viewing RL08 "BambamSquarepants" had just hauled out of the LPB surge channel near MO3 and PO3. He soon left and hauled out about 25
minutes later near the SRI channel. MO3 & PO3 were doing normal mom and pup behaviors. The DOFAW-DAR team did get a bleach on PO3, but it soon got washed off by a wave, so they don't know if the bleach took.
Among the waterfront rocks between 1BS and 3BS was a Juvenile Female: small juvenile size, tannish yellow female belly with some green and two red tags.
RF34 Pua was on the waterfront rocks about 60 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS. PO5 was hidden behind Pua and the waterfront rocks until
Marilyn finally saw the pup at 11:52 am. Pua and PO5 appear to be doing fine.
About 40 feet Makapuu side of RF34 was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, female belly, unsure about tags. This may be the Unknown Sub-adult from yesterday.
Initially on the waterfront rocks about 40 feet Lanikai side of the SRI channel was MO4&PO4. At one point PO4 appeared to get caught in a tide pool, but ultimately made its way back to MO4. All seems well

Team R&B started their usual search on the west side. They finally
spotted a seal with its head in the pond. At first they thought maybe Kala but no it was RM31 Kai.
They also got a glimpse of a mocking bird gathering for a nest.

Over at electric beach they saw a chubby seal on shore being visited by fans. They think its R604.
They did a re-check at 3 pm and she was still there.

Team R&B decided to head over to plains. When they arrived they saw two seals on the shoreline but there were no signs, and there were
kids and surfers in the water and passing by. The seals gave up and went into the water by the buoy and played around for a while. Then both seals swam over to a man who wouldn't move out of the ay. The seals kept heading in by Tower 2, and lifeguard didn't do anything. Team R&B went got some cones and called out to people to let the seals come up and move back. It took some work but people finally moved.  The lifeguard came with signs he said everyone was really busy. He placed the signs out with ropes.  The two seals were Aukai RL12 and Kalani RN14. They both landed and settled in.

Then Team R&B got a text of a seal hauling out near the fence line. They got to the area and folks were really close. So they gathered sticks and made a zone. They told a friend about the seal it was RT06. They stuck around and waited. Finally they had to leave, but did receive a text later that a lifeguard came and placed signs.
