Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:59 am to 12 noon. Conditions were very overcast with brisk winds but no rain. There was one seal seen during that time. Up in the dunes between 1BS and 2BS was a sub-adult unknown: probably sub-adult size, lighter ventral, probably male, and at least one red tag (probably two). The S/U barely changed position, so Marilyn was unable to get much more information.
Team R&B first stop at pokai and spotted a seal foraging. Theovercast skies made it hard to see. They saw two tags, so they knew it wasn't R3CX and they didn't see his signatured bleach mark. RL20 has little notches on each hind flipper, which this seal did have. They believe it looks like RL20 Kalua with his slightly misty green snout and white muzzle. The seal never landed and kept going further out. The seal was for sure an adult.
Next stop at Kahe they spotted a fat seal, clean coat and no tags. The seal was resting against and they were able to ID Mr. Kaale RH32.
To the right of Kaale was RG32 who was easy to ID with his applied bleach mark showing.
Observing electric beach from afar they spotted two seals. They noted that in all their years of observing seals and people on the beaches, they have never gotten use to those who find great joy being right up close to an endangered wild seal.
One of the seals was a female sub-adult size, who turned out to be RS32. They were unsure of the other seal who might be RM31 with a scar on the right facial area. But he was reported as an Unknown.
Checking back at pokai they spotted a fat seal on lower rocks. It was amale with tags, which at first they weren't sure who this male was. He turned and they saw his tags and his signature facial bleach mark. Nalu R3CX hung out for about five minutes and then left. They were grateful they arrived when they did. They watched him swim around the rocks and back to his favorite eating spot by the jetty and open ocean.
