05/26/2020 Tuesday Safe-At-Home (63) Monk Seal Dailies

First I'll start with yesterday's news from Marilyn's observations.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for about 3 hours yesterday. She spotted three seals during her observations. UF aka Mom (most likely Aukai) and PO3 started out on the rock flats of LPB. About 15 minutes later they went into the water for a long swim. They hauled out about an hour and half later for a nursing session. Then 45 minutes later went back into the water for a bit and finally hauled out between the 1BS and 2BS. Marilyn got a brief look at the kids belly and at this point thinks it's another boy.... but not confirmed.

At some point Marilyn spotted a small seal near SRI. It most likely is PO1 Kahukai by juvenile size, light belly and no tags.  It appears he was mesmerized by a noddy tern that was on the waterfront rock.

Tammy was out at Ka'ena Point with Lesley today to check on Ka'ena. Their first find was Kainoa RN04. Next up was BG R303 on the reefs by her pool.  According to Tammy "she is looking large and in charge!"
Then they found RL74 Kami on the reefs by Ka'ena's pool. And as luck would have they found Ka'ena RO40. They did not see the damashi hook on his body nor did they see any hook or line on his body or mouth.
On their way out they stopped to check on Leia RL42 and PO4 Kai. PO4's belly is turning to a rusty brown and muzzle is getting silver.

Team Billand checked on the west side and they found their problem child RH32 Kaale foraging at the outfall. He stole a couple fish but actually caught more on his own. Then he suddenly took off at a high rate of speed to the west. That was it he was gone.

At another west side location close by they found RG28 Lefty snoozin.
They did do a recheck later in the day and he was still there high and dry.

Team Billand headed east to check on weaner PO2 Nohea. When they arrived she had moved from her previous location. She was alone exploring the shallows in between rocks. She spent two hours eating sea cucumbers one after another. (This must be weaner baby food)
After a bit she got tired of fighting the currents and landed on shore for a long nap.
