HMMA Update from August 9th

At 1057 Jennifer checked in while she was on shift with Ua Maile (RT10) and PO5 she could see a seal hauling out at Kaihalulu Beach. Karen T. responded and ID'ed R912 (Nihoa) by the scar on her head and her 2 white finger nails on her left fore flipper. As Karen was setting up signs Holokai (RG40) hauled out 60 feet west of Nihoa. No visible sign of molting. They remained sleeping at 1400 when Karen departed.

Carola checked in via email after her shift with Ka'ale (RH32). She arrived at the beach at 0800. There was no sign of Ka’ale. He appeared in the shallows about 0840 and foraged for about 2 hours and then slept among the rocks. Shortly before 1300 Ka'ale went back into the water briefly and then hauled back out. Observed Ka'ale playing with leaves and sticks for a few minutes and then he went to sleep. Ka'ale remained sleeping at 1400 when Carola left.
