2-6-2013 DB Dailies: T21M@KPB, Kolohe&Buster@RI, Kaiwi@LL, Makaiwi,M&M, 2AW@WP, Benny@Makaha, RL54@TB, Rocky@IRQ

At 0710 I found T21M nestled up next to a fishing pole belonging to one of the MANY derelict, "permanent residents" of the Makapuu end of Kaupo Beach Park. I was half way done cordoning him off, when the dogs of said derelicts ran him off. Though I spent the day trying to locate him, I did not see him again.

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island, at 0939 I found Kolohe (RW22) snoozin' in the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS. He would be joined at 1324 by Buster (RV08), and both remained all day.
Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting #1708, White Plains at 0645.

At 0800 the found 2AW on the east side of the White Plains perimeter fence.

Dana called at 1721 to advise that Vera was roping off Rocky (RH58) at Iroquois Pt.

Dana called about an animal in Waialua at 1823. Awaiting further word.

At 1430 the Billands reported Benny (RE74) at the Makaha Surfside Condos.

At 1607 they reported M&M (R020) newly arrived to join Makaiwi at White Plains.

Seals have been going to Makaha Surfside to rest...but they cant at first. WHY? Because of idiots that need to enter the zone, harass the seals. Yesterday we got multiple calls of a seal haul out near the lagoon. A person went in the zone, just inches from the seal. Of course the seal leaped at the person, the human challenged that seal which was THE BENNY. A lady witnessed the action going on felt badly for the seal. She yelled at the person, he kept at the seal, finally the human left. DNLR was called..Thanks to the crew out there, POSSIE, and our outstanding volunteer, Debbie...kept the seal safe the rest of the day. I thank all those ladies who are out there at Makaha Surfside. Its not easy to protect the seal there...the other day, same thing, 912 was resting between rocks and humans again harassed the seal there. A dog approached her too. Kids come from the school near by...its a tuff area. But THANKS TO DEBBIE, COOKIE, and the other heros, Benny and 912 got to stay till late because they had guts to protect our seals. No words can say how much we appreciate these folks...god bless you. I hope no seals go there today to give you all...a much needed break. I wish that DNLR could go there when a seal hauls out. Maybe hide in the area to see what goes on there at Makaha Surfside.

Its a really nice beach out there, but the people that hang out, need some education or put in jail. Strong statement, but, its what we see going on.

This place needs some monitoring by DNLR...PLEASE..not easy for a regular citizen to take things in their own hands. NOT SAFE for them.

It always hurts to witness a Hawaiian Monk Seal being taunted by humans...how can one be so dam MEAN???? The poor seal isnt doing a dam thing, just resting. BAH!!!!!!
