6-20-2012 The Elves visit Kauai

Donna & DB,

We had an AWESOME trip thanks to Kauai monk seal volunteers Perry, Michele, Mimi, Kim, Mira, and Donna for helping us identify the seals that we saw. Can you believe we saw 8, yes that's 8 seals on the northeast shore of Kauai.

We were very fortunate to see Rocky (RH58/59) with her new pup (female) as well as K30 and pup (male) very close to each other. Pups tried to play with each other but moms called them back. Both moms were very attentive and defended several advances from K05. We were able to see L14 (KP2's brother) and mom K22 not together since he weaned a couple of weeks ago. He was bitten by K30 when he tried to get too close to her pup.

We also saw another U/F with K05 INTERACTING right in front of Rocky and her pup. We'll be having another seal in a few months.

The people, food and hotel on Kauai were A-1. Can't wait to go again!!!

Rocky with her porky pup

Interesting how much time Rocky is here on Oahu, but year after year she goes to Kauai to give birth.... Maybe her little girl will come to Oahu someday and have pups of her own.
Rocky getting thin... pup getting plump
 RK30 with little boy
This poor Momma has been through a lot.... she has scares all over and clearing had been tangled with something around her neck.
Here is RL14 (KP2's little brother)
I don't think KP2 was every this fat as a youngen...
Perry (Kauai volunteer), Gayle and Kathy (elves) Great shot

What a fantastic journey...awesome seal finds. Great photos. And thanks for sharing with the blogger guys....I really enjoyed reading your story...

Soon Rocky RH58 will be coming back home to Oahu and the boys will be after her....AGAIN.

Glad KP2's Mom turned out to be an ok mom. I always wonder why she didnt take care of him..he is a joy to be with.

And those scars on that poor female is horrible and sad...amazing how its still living.
