6-15-2012 DB's Dailies:MM&Pup,Kolohe,Noa&Nani@RI, Irma@WSK,R5AY@Laie

At 0628 I found M&M and Pup (D#3), once again on Rocky Right Beach, Rabbit Island. They moved up and down with the tides, and remained at that location all day. Just a brief note about a shot of myself at the Makapuu Overview. It has nothing to do with ego, but is , in fact , documentation of day that posse member Gayle, Finally....Finally bought a camera !! I was dodging flying pigs all morning !! If that can happen I might even become a "Facebooker"..... Nah !!

At 0635 I found Kolohe (RW22) on the water front rocks, right of Seal Rock Inlet.

At 0726 on a pan I found that another young male had joined Kolohe. Despite a full day of observations, I can not state with any certainty at all, who it was. I saw a male belly and 2 red tags, and a semi circle scar on the lower right chest. I'll have to do some delving into the photo database. Maybe tomorrow ????

(1819) The delving is done. OMG !!!! the animal with Kolohe was NOA (R6FI)!!!! I knew I'd seen that scar before, and sure enough a check of my files makes it a certainty. This marks Noa's first sighting in the SE quadrant. Sadly I never got a shot of the scar. Once again..... Maybe tomorrow ???? My guess is that he followed Benny on his latest RI adventure, but ????

At 0856 Nani (RK60) hauled out to the Waimanalo side of Left Point Beach. She remained there all day.
Team Billand called at 1010 with the report of Irma (R010) at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach.

I received shots from Dera, of an animal seen today in Laie by Amy Graves. I gotta' go with R5AY, based on the right side facial scars. i saw the photos earlier and thought the same thing..... hmmmm when is this momma due?

We were watching Miss Irma and all was good. 10:34am this dog came running into the Zone, followed by its pretty owner. THe dog was UNLEASHED!! Rob tried to grab the dogs collar but he was too fast. The dog passed Irma a bit, suddenly stopped, got a sniff of her scent, turned and went up to Irma. We were yelling at the dog, the OWNER Yelling at her dog to stop. But the dog kept at Irma. Irma postured, started growling, barking at the dog who was startled and faced Irma. Irma was so angry and roared even louder!! The owner ran in the zone, tried grabbing the unleashed dog on its back and tail. Finally the owner grabbed the dog, ran out of the zone. We tried to talk to her to tell her about the dangers of a dog verses a seal, but she just kept going, obviously shooken as we were. She left immediately. The whole incident lasted one minute, but for us..it lasted forever!!! I suffered a mass of nerves..just shaking. No police called, the lady and dog took off. Glad there was no contact...LUCKY!!! Holy crap..that was so scarey!!!

Irma remained..she even hauled up higher into the greenery a bit. Tide was getting her. She moved back down as the greenery was too pokey..she looked so cute.

I wish we could get folks to understand..a beach is not for loose dogs..especially with a pregnant monk seal on shore. Its not the first time Irma has been attacked by a dog here. This spot is DOGSVILLE every day. Right after this incident, three more dogs came by..BUT..all were leashed.

And thanks for the two volunteers who came to watch for Irma, while we went on with our search for more seals. Thanks Jim Brown and Deanna. Your help is appreciated.
