Yesterday's News (12-18-11) KP2

Aloha Good People,
I was sent these photo's from Mary and Barry Werthwine, two of Kauai's finer volunteers.  They came to Oahu this past weekend and of course went to visit KP2 aka Ho'ailona. I wish I didn't have to work, as it would have been really wonderful to spend some time with them.

What most people forget is long before he arrived on Oahu and then later released on Molokai and became the celebrity seal... His anticipated birth was being watched over by many dedicated volunteers on Kauai. (Mary and Barry being part of that group).... If it had not been for all their dedication and observation, he may not have made it.  So in many ways his story begins with these dedicated folks. (and unfortunately, often times, this goes unmentioned.)  SO let it be KNOWN... the Kauai Volunteers Rock!  They have for many years gone above and beyond.... they deal with large numbers of seals and births.... and many time hostile situations.... but they still are there, they still have passion and drive, for that I am thankful.

He is a handsome dude
Looks like he still loves his belly rubs... glad to see the folks at the Aquarium are indulging him
And there he is soooo handsome...

God bless the mighty Volunteers on Kauai. You guys are certainly the SEAL ANGELS!!! KP2 is a seal sent from HEAVEN...he is truly an amazing seal who has gone through so much. And it all happened BECAUSE of folks like you who cared, who was there from the start. Hugs to you all for your loving and caring ways...for giving KP2 the life he has.
Your photos are outstanding..and look, you came from KAUAI to see your KP2, wow, I live here and havent seen him YET. I cant wait to see him..all Oahu Volunteers who cared for him and of course the molokai folks, LOVE KP2 with our souls. He is a very special seal,we knew that from our first day together at Kaneohe Marine Corp Base.
Rob and I and DB found our beloved HOKU just the day before DEAD at Waimanalo area. A victim of a lay gill net, a very tragic moment for us. We thought of QUITTING monk seals...PERIOD!!
We were asked to volunteer with the ABANDONED SEAL FROM KAUAI..and I am so grateful we did.
KP2 kept us in the monk seal world..seeing him out in the sea pen, made us see, MONK SEALS NEED ALL OF US.
Ok, I tend to go on and on, but, THANK YOU ALL OF KAUAI VOLUNTEERS...Donna is right!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!! Flipper hugs to you and again, thank you all for what you do for MONK SEALS..
Flipper hugs to ya...B.

Volunteers are volunteers no one volunteer is finer than the other.

I agree all volunteers are great, especially any monk seal volunteers.

Having said that, there are some people who have been through special circumstances, that puts them into a different category. That is not meant to take away from anyone but merely to acknowledge some who go above and beyond.

Also and this is for anyone writing comments.... I have been asked by several followers if I know who the anons are. So I will ask anyone who is commenting to include a name in with you comments. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
