12-20-11 DB's Dailies Kaiwi@SC, M38,Kolohe&Nani@RI, Kermit@DH, RO28@Electric Beach, Right Spot@Sunset, 2AW@Pokai Bay, U/U@KK

My first stop was the cove, but it was Monk Seal free this morning. The adventure continued. At 0937 Gayle called to report Kaiwi (RK96) doing 8 min. dives at Spitting Cave. In addition to Gayle, Kathy, Zeenie and I spent some very wet hours with the little girl, through the day.

Posse member Dave Martin called at 0700 with the report of an animal left of the showers at Diamond Head. Colleen confirmed the Kermit (R012) ID at 0942.

At 0722 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Electric Beach.

Dera checked in at 1026 with the report of an animal at Sunset Beach. A second Dera call at 1058 confirmed the Right Spot ID, by N6 bleach.

My first look at Rabbit Island , in the morning was amidst driving rain, but when I got back for a 1200 check I found RM38, Kolohe (RW22) together, and Nani several feet away, at the left end of the beach.

They were sharing the island today with a DOFAW crew, planting native plants on the slopes. All transportation was via helicopter. None of the activity seemed to have any affect on the seals, who were well away from the activity.

At 1628 Team Billand checked in again with the report of 2AW at Pokai Bay.

At 1750 I got a call from posse members Bob&Linda Nichols who live directly above Irma's Grotto at the Kokee Flats in Portlock, reporting an animal in the tide pool. When I arrived at 1810 the animal had departed. Photos were inconclusive, and an U/U is required, however, based on size, color, and most importantly location, I'd put my dollar (and a coupla' cats) on Irma.

Team Billand stopped by the Aquarium today to visit with KP2. Naturally, great photos were involved.

Kaiwi N19 @ Spitting Cave
I wonder how they know to go there...  go west until you come to finger coral swing right.

Nani, M38 and Kolohe snoozed while the helicopters and DOFAW folks invaded the island to do a little planting.
