We were on
the road dark and early as usual, but it would be 1020 before my first critter
was sighted. Despite much looking, there was no Kaiwi today.
At 1020 I got a
call from a fisherman posse member advising of an animal at Irma's Grotto, on
the Kokee Flats, Portlock. When I arrived at 1050 there was Irma (R010) floating
in the tide pool. She would haul out to the rocks, and has remained the rest of
the day.
At 1232 I found RM38, Kolohe
(RW22) and and U/U all at the left end of the beach, in the Morning Glory, 40 ft
left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. I spent all day trying to ID the unknown but it
never gave me enough to go on, staying only partially visible all day. Maybe
tomorrow ??
At 1548 Nani (RK60) hauled
out at the left end, and she too moved up and into the Morning Glory.
Team
Billand called at 0913 with the report of Kermit (R012) at Kermit's Reef, on the
west side of the Nimitz Jetty.
Dana called at 0951 with a
report from snorklers at Makua Beach of having seen an animal with an N8. This
is not possible since Kerby no longer has the N8 bleach, however it is possible
that they miss read his W08 tag. Awaiting photos.
While on the subject of Makua
Beach, Barbara called at 1729 to advise that her nephew was diving at Makua
today and encountered T15M, who was interested in his fish . The ID is based on
his report of the animal missing a fore flipper.
At 1342
Team Billand reported 2AW at Tracks.
Dana called at 1100 with the
report of an animal on the beach behind a condo along the Gold Coast at the
Diamond Head end of Waikiki. Colleen would later confirm the Rocky (RH58) ID.
I got a
call from Ocean Safety at 1359 reporting an animal hauling out near lifeguard
tower 2F in Waikiki. I notified Dana and she later advised that Colleen was
responding. Unfortunately, the adoring hordes ran the animal off before Colleen
arrived. Rocky was accounted for, and I contacted posse member Linda Nichols who
advised that Irma was still at Kokee. Consequently, I have no clue who this U/U
might have been. I'm hoping for Flickr photos in the morning to perhaps provide
a clue.
