7/8/2010 DB Dailies

It was another active day on Rabbit Island . Once again I found Ewa Girl & Sam in the company of RIP on my first look at 0645. RIP would be their almost constant companion. He did however take some time off to go visit Sadie and Duke, and go a few rounds with M38.

Also at 0645 I found Sadie up in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of 1BS, and Duke up in the grass at the right end of the beach. Sadie would later move to Rocky Right Beach (RRB) at the right end.

It was yet another first for EG & Sam. After their first swim they hauled out to the left end of the Middle Cliff area. Of course , RIP was there too. All other haul outs would be back at their usual location at the point of LPB, at the left end. We are getting close to the end here, so I'm guessing that she is introducing him to the other easy haul out locations. I would observe 2 swims and 4 feeds today.

While they were doing that feed , RIP took off to swim down and join Duke briefly , and then moved to join Sadie and Kolohe at RRB. At 1308 M38 arrived and attempted to haul out to join Sadie,RIP and Kolohe. RIP was on him as soon has he cleared the water. M38 then moved over to join Duke, but left quickly when Duke gave him no reaction at all. As M38 was swimming out the channel RIP charged into the water and it was all white water. I lost them both. At 1325 I got a glimpse of RIP's transmitter off shore of 2BS, just as he met M38 again. The water exploded and once again I lost them both. At 1331 RIP and M38 hauled out to separate locations on the far left end of he beach, and started advancing toward each other. The battle took place behind the exact spot where all the waves collide, so I could see almost nothing, but it was the first of the battles that RIP came out on the short end. RIP did his slow, macho roll to the water afterward, and M38 was bellowing on the beach. RIP would go to resume his duties with Ewa Girl & Sam, and later M38 would rejoin Kolohe.

Team Billand reported Makaiwi at the Nimitz Cottages (#1703), at 0855.

They would later report Rocky at Iroquois Point, at 1410. Rocky has begun her molt as of today (1%)

It was D#9 with R5AY&P at Turtle Bay. Thank you to Diane Gabriel for today's outstanding shots.
