7/18/2010 DB Dailies

The Rabbit Island gang was Sam , Mojo, Sadie, Duke & Kolohe, with an U/U showing up briefly in the waters off shore of Mojo. A battle ensued and I saw neither again today. Mojo has been hangin' out on Molokai of late so it was nice to see him home again, however briefly.

Team Billand called at 0800 with the report of Makaiwi (4DF) fronting #1806, at Nimitz Cottages.

Posse member Rachel called at 1154 to report Rocky, once again at the showers at Diamond Head.

The Kenyon Expeditions made the KP trek today, and reported Ka'ena, Kerby and CeeCee at the point, and at a spot approximately 20 minutes in from the Waianae side trail head they found T15M, M&M, and RI37.

Keith mentioned in his report that today was a personal best of 6 for him. I can also say that this is yet another best. The previous "most reported animals in a single day" record was 13. Today a new record was set with a total of 15 critters !!

This was D#19 for R5AY&P at Turtle Bay. Thanks to Diane for another batch of pup shots.

I had yet another DOCARE Incident at RI today, but this one came with an interesting twist. At 1143 I noticed two kayaks headed for RI, with 3 people aboard, but approximately halfway out they stopped to retrieve a large piece of "ghost net", with a live Brown Booby entangled in it. When they landed at RI, they disentangled the bird and it appeared to be healthy and well. They took the net with them when they departed at 1235. I was willing to forego a DOCARE call, but they just had to go down to check out Duke, so the gloves were off, and I called DOCARE. They were met at their vacation rental on the Waimanalo side of Makai Pier upon arrival, and were given a warning, since they had done a good deed .

I count 16 seals DB, unless you're not counting the U/U. Too bad seal count wasn't yesterday. BTW- that last shot of 5AY and pup is an older one from 7/8. I don't know how that photo got in there but you can see how much pup has grown. Diane

I am sorry you had to witness yet another docare event. BUT those guys were cool to distangle a bird in a net, that was GREAT!. Ah humans......you're right, there was a bit of a twist to this DOCARE story.

OK. Is it just me or is Makaiwi still a little on the thin side? Any comments? Was blood drawn when she had the cell phone installed? Is she healthy? Inquiring minds wanna know. Hey I believe thin is in, except in a seal.
