7/24/2010 DB Dailies

The Rabbit Island cast would begin with Buster & Kolohe in the Morning Glory ,40 ft left of 1BS, at 0650. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0900 they had moved down to the water line . Kolohe would remain there all day, however Buster was in cruiser mode and spent time with the other cast members. He would rejoin Kolohe at the end of the day.

At 0901 on a pan I found Duke , newly arrived , 80 ft right of 3BS. He would remain there all day.

At 1102 I became aware of Sam, swimming and playing with Buster, off shore of 1BS. Sam would haul out to 1BS at 1123. He would later be run off.

Marilyn did the Turtle Bay trek today and found a happy and healthy mom and pup on D#25.

Team Billand reported Kermit at the Nimitz Cottages at 0818. It sounded like there was a bumper crop of idiots out today, both at Nimitz, and later at White Plains. Kermit would depart with the rising tide at 1430, and swam to White Plains where he attempted 3 haul outs. The moron herd would not allow it. He was last seen by the Billands , swimming to the west. He was not seen again today.

As Barbara was following Kermit she happened on to another animal fronting #1943 at WP. Barbara confirmed that it was Rocky !!

The Billands also reported 4DJ at IRQ again today.

A Rabbit Island DOCARE Incident began at 1233 with the arrival of two adult, local females, and a male child, arriving aboard a yellow, 2-man kayak. After landing the proceed to explore and at 1238 encountered Sam at 1BS. In attempting to pass by him, way to close , they scared him into the water. He did not haul out again today, but I could see him swimming off shore of 1BS. One of the females and the child then proceeded to Kolohe, who alerted on them as they were taking pictures, but did not depart. They departed the island at 1300, and were met by DOCARE Officer Silberstein at Kaupo Beach Park.

I have a dinner engagement, and will have to send off the dailies a bit early today. Please check da' blog for Team Billands report.

Is this the fourth incident this week??? Is the Kayak rentals telling people to go to Rabbit Island for an adventure with seals? Why are so many of these idots going to R.I.???? What is the fascination there?? It is a nightmare!!! Maybe this should be put to the news channels. Maybe the news can help explain to the public how bad an idea it is to go to R.I. Seems whatever laws we have, it aint working at all. People do as they please and get away with it weekly now. What are we supposed to do???? WHo is going to STOP this illegal landing????? Does anyone of these idots go to jail??? Directly to jail, do not pass go? Must the critters who are critically endangered suffer with loss of resting on their Island? Hell, this is not fair, IT IS ILLEGAL...PERIOD!! R.I. is not FANTACY ISLAND...come on, somebody solve this scarey situation...Please!!! If this LAW of NO LANDING IS NOT ENFORCED...Our poor children of the sea will be in big trouble...HELP!!!!!!!

prolvermBarbara - you can't fix stupid.

I agree the kayak rental places should tell folks not to go to Rabbit Island but then you are assuming the people renting even KNOW it is rabbit island or can read for that matter.

Perhaps if the fine was $10,000 and actually levied word would get out but I doubt it.

Did not mean to type prolvermBarbara, prolverm was the verification word and somehow I put it in the text..sorry about that.

No one here can honestly say that the kayak rental business is the soul party responsible for these illegal trespass activities on rabbit Island.
It is the responsibility of the individual to comply with any statute that exist there or anywhere for that matter. We as tax payers expect a reasonable amount of service from the enforcement agency responsible for protecting our resources, if the service is not being provided reasonably then it's obvious soomething must be done. bitching on the blogs don't amount to anything...how about bitching to your local elected representative...We citizens pay for DOCARE's wages, We expect a certain level of service. Mind you there are many DOCARE officers who's service is noteworthy regardless DOCARE's and the DLNR executive leadership is to blame for the quality or lack of quality service we are recieving.

Hi Smart person, I want to say, that I have bitched to the authorities many a time. THey say they are looking into the matter. I've sent photos, I've written long letters, begging for something to be done on R.I. SO far not one dam thing has been done. The tragedy continues as we speak. Who else can we complain to if the representatives cant solve the R. I. Issue??? WHo else? I am so worried for our critters who are in danger every day of their lives. If you got an easy answer, please, please tell us what else we can DO!!! Yes there are some fantastic men of DOCARE or DNLR we've met that are hard working and respond to some of our pleas. But the R.I. issue is horrible..You seem to be intelligent, cant YOU help us out??? Come on...tell us something good, tell us there is a way to keep the mammals safe...I'm all ears Mr. or Miss ANONYMOUS!!! If there is an answer to the R.I. issue, man, you'd be our HERO!!!! HONEST!!!!
