Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:17 to 1:53 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
Two weaners hauled out on LPB about 1:25 pm. Marilyn thinks it was the two male weaners. She did not knowingly see RV50 (female weaner) again today. The larger of the male weaners RV70 moved to the back of LPB. RV68 moved to the center of the beach and both were in snooze mode.
Where she was yesterday RK38 Hali'a was snoozing between Middle Cliff and 3BS. Although it seems early, she seems to be exhibiting pre-molting behavior.
Between the 3BS and SRI, RM26 Nohea and her pup PO10 snoozed. Then they entered the water and swam from about 12:40 to 1:18 pm. Then they hauled back out and had an extended nursing session.
Out on the RRB side of the SRI channel was juvenile female RU38: she's very green, female belly and two red tags.
Team R&B checked out the west side. Their first find surprised them in that she is still hanging around. It was and I quote "Big Bumbucha" RH76 Kala. She was on the rocks alone. They did recheck later in the day and she was gone. Let's hope she is heading to Rabbit Island.!!!
From afar they saw a seal haul up at Electric Beach. They couldn't ID the seal, they noted it had tags, greenish coat and most likely a sub-adult. They weren't able to make it over to the site.
Before heading to the pupping site they stopped at plains to check. There was the beautiful female from Kure Atoll Miss Huaka'i KG54/G89. The waves were pounding her and she just took it in. Finally she moved up higher.
Team R&B finally made it to the pup site and all was calm. They got word there had been problems during the night and the seals got disturbed.
But while Team R&B were on site all was calm. Rocky RH58 nursed PO11 and they were higher up. Today PO11 is 10 days old. After filling its belly the two of them spent the rest of the time sleeping. and then one last feed. Team R&B did not see any swims today, the surf was high and dangerous. Momma Rocky kept pup close to her all day.
DLNR, and NOAA's Ted Kearns came by to visit and talked with the volunteers. Hopefully someone will be making night checks.
