1/9/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: RIP RR70, Kekoa RK72, RK36 "Kauai Kolohe", RW22 Kolohe, Kaiwi RK96, Buster V08, and Rabbit Island Critter

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Posse Pal Vicki and Gayle.

Team Billand started there day at the crack of dawn, with no seals anywhere! They drove back to Maili and found a seal coming up on the rocks, looked around and went right to sleep. He was ID'd as RR70 RIP. He remained there all day but did move to high rocks and was joined by Kekoa Alii RK72. He stayed to the left of Rip, snoozing on the high rocks.

After many hours of searching they spotted an animal with signs at Yokohama Bay. Drove down and saw RK36 "Kauai Kolohe". Volunteers were there and had their hands full with a crowded beach. While there Rob spotted a Cargo Net off shore, ( approx. 400 plus feet) floating. He told the lifeguard and DOCARE was notified.  Don't know if they were able to get out to it, as they said it was too far out.

Earlier Team Billand spotted 3 to 4 critters swimming off shore at Maili, traveling fast towards Honolulu. Looks like the boys are heading back out. No IDs were possible.

And lastly for Team Billand they found RW02 "PvKauai" on shore. There had been another seal that took off before Team Billand arrived that was ID'd as Kolohe RW22 by volunteer Melina & her Mom.  There were lots of footprints in the sand around PvKauai.  And now it was sunset, time for Team Billand to go home.

Posse pal Vicki covered a lot of territory today. She did see Kaiwi RK96 today at Kaimana Beach. That was the only critter after searching Hauula, Turtle Bay and Kawelas.  There was a little treasure found at Kahuku Point. Some folks left a sweet sand sculpture where Kahulu used to hang out. I am sure one of his flipper fans were responsible for leaving this memorial..... and Kahulu gave back a rainbow.

After coming up empty for a few days Gayle finally spotted a critter on Rabbit Island. Because the critter was close to the shoreline it made it very difficult to see.  Gayle also found Buster V08 at Sandy Beach today. When she left at 18:30 he was still there.  Unfortunately there was no Right Spot sighting today, but email from Tracy suggest the mark on her right shoulder may be "organic" like sea cucumber.
