1/18/18 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand, Team T&D (Tammy&Dave) and Gayle.

Lesley went out for an afternoon walk with baby Ka'ala and came upon RG40 Holokai in the "weaner" cove near Ka'ean Point. It appears he's been there for hours.  Just when Lesley thought she could call it a day, she got a call from fisherman Jerome that a seal had just hauled out and went up the path. She flew down since there was little light left, was able to get an ID RN58 Luana.  Thank you Lesley for lighting the photos so we could see.

Team Tammy and Dave went out together to Ka'ena Point and their only find was R330 Squinty.

Team Billand was on the Leeward Side and found two seal snoozing together on shore visible from the road. They called the hotline and then spotted a third seal coming. The two snoozing were ID'd as RH32 Kaale and RW22 Kolohe. The 3rd critter was way out came in fast bobbing his head looking to the shore.  He hauled up and went to Kolohe first sniffs, Kolohe turns they have a few words. The newcomer is ID'd as Kekoa RK72. Kaale wakes up he and Kekoa give each other a nuzzle.  Of course Kaale starts his head butting routine to Kekoa and he heads towards the water followed by butt head Kaale and Kolohe, all three enter the water at 9:30 am.  Kolohe and Kaale go at it until 10:30, came closer to show, but now it looks like Kolohe is getting the best of Kaale who is getting tired. There was lots of rolling and hugging. A fourth seal is seen in the water, no positive ID.

Team Billand checking in at another location on the Leeward side they found a large seal high on the rocks he was ID'd as RR70 RIP. A second seal came in and hauled up next to Rip and he was ID'd as RN14 Kalani, both remained together on high rocks.

Last stop for Team Billand they spotted two seal on the rocks and walked over found RW02 PvKauai and RK36 Kauai Kolohe. Both were sleeping and probably there for a while since they were dry. On their recheck they were both still there.

Gayle spotted three seals on Rabbit Island this afternoon, pictures are poor quality because of the afternoon glare. The seals weren't there in the morning. Gayle found Right Spot at
Kaupo Beach.
