4/24/2015 DB's Dailies: Sadie&PO2, RM38,Kaiwi,Kea&Kainoa@RI, Benny@Makaha,La'akea&Ola@TB

Once again the VOG made life difficult in the Rabbit Island world, but everybody got an ID so it could have been worse. When I arrived at 0638 I found what would later prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) snoozin’ in the Morning Glory, 20 ft left of 1BS. She would move down to cool off.

I did not see Sadie&PO2(RB12) on my first check. I was hopeful that they were doing a water session. When I got back to Makai Pier they were on the beach at the left end, and doing a feed. The would snooze away the entire morning. PO2 woke up around 1215 and began working toward the water line. Sadie was alert and both would enter the water for a session at 1223, hauling out again at the same location at 1249. This is D#9 so there have no doubt be other water sessions, but this is the first one that I have observed. The remained in the shallows, but the kid was floppin’ & flappin’.

At 0945 RM38 hauled out to join Kaiwi. He would reenter the water at 1034, and at 1047 he would haul out, in the company of Kainoa (RN04) on to the water front rocks 90 ft right of 3BS. Both would remain the rest of the day.

On a pan at 0955 I happened to see a small animal just hauling out and passing by Sadie&PO2. It would move all the way to the far left end of the beach, and spent most of the day hidden behind large rocks. Finally, at 1210 it came into view again that thanks to the beautiful NB on the RFF it would prove to be Kea.

Team Billand called at 0810 to advise that Debbie had called them reporting an animal, with a transmitter, once again at the Makaha Surfside Condos. At 0831 they confirmed the Benny (RE74) ID. Debbie advised that Benny was gone when she checked at 1145.

Cianna called at 0951 to advise that she’d gotten a call about “K82", La’akea , at Right Spot’s Spot, Turtle Bay. Melanie called later on her way to weaner duty to advise that 1300 to advise that she was still there. Melanie will no doubt have Ole shots after her shift. Karen Rohter was on duty today, and was lucky enough to have Ola decide to haul out right at the end of her shift.

Gary Langley forwarded some shots to the Billands, of RN44 (one of Rocky’s boys) on Kauai. He just had a hook removed, and appears to be happy & well again. Thank You Gary !
