11-16-11 DB Dailies and More

The first order of business was a 0545 trip to Sandy Beach, to check on the status of Right Spot.  LONA Thankfully, she had departed. I picked up the signs and continued the adventure. (right spot spent the night on the mokes).

Despite many miles trod and driven by today's Mission Impossible crew of Thea, Ann, Gayle, Karen and myself, Kaiwi was not seen. She has been sneaking in 24 hours disappearances lately. She must have a secret spot.

Despite my regular quest through the SE quadrant, the only critters I saw today were on my 0825 Spitting Cave check. There I found Kolohe (RW22) and Duke (RA12) foraging and playing (mostly playing ). I was bummed not to see Kekoa with them, but that mystery was to be solved a bit later on.

Team Billand checked in at 0643 to advise that Irma (R010) was fronting #1706 at White Plains.  At 0807 they reported that Kermit (R4DG) was just hauling out, fronting #1707 at White Plains.

The "Biggy" news of the day came with a call from Team Billand at 1044. Reef Runway posse member Eileen had called them to report that Kekoa (RK72) was back at the Reef Runway !! His first known adventure away from his birth spot had begun with a report on 10-26, sighting him off shore of Ala Moana Beach Park. Thereafter came multiple sightings out in the SE quadrant, at Hanauma Bay, Rabbit Island, and Spitting Cave. He connected with Duke, Buster and Kolohe, and I had hoped that he was going to become one of the boyz out this way. Alas, he has returned to his starting point. While I'm stoked to see that he could under take a round trip successfully, I must admit that I was looking forward to spending the rest of our days, together out this way. Hopefully, he'll make the trip again soon.

THE Donna checked in at 1313 to advise that her kayaker posse reported that Right Spot (R016) had apparently overnighted on the Mokes. She was still there this morning.

Team Billand found Ewa Girl (RS00) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds at 1300. At 1411 the reported M&M (R020) at Maili Point.

Dana called at 1415 to advise of an animal at Diamond Head. Colleen confirmed Rocky (RH58) to the right of the showers. Witnesses said she arrived at around 1230.

Dana also advised that La'akea (RK82) was near McKenzie's at TB.

At 1706 Team Billand reported a 50% molted Benny (RE74) at Yokes.

I have to admit, I was enjoying the updates of Kekoa Alii and the other seals out at Spitting Caves, arriving at R.I. It is truly amazing Kekoa Alii has gone from Reef RunWay, his birthing spot and off that way. All places Mama gone. Now I wonder, will Kekoa Alii venture out to West side??? Like Mama too??? If so, Rob and I will be waiting to see him out at Kalaeloa, Campbells, Plains near the last cabin. I still say these pups are in there, NAVIGATING their routes through Mom's navel. He. He. Hey, who knows. I mean their in that belly of Mom for eleven months, they got to be feeling the routes, dont ya think?
Dont ya worry DB, I am sure Kekoa will be visiting you in the future as he now learned, he has friends out that way.
Now, Kermit and Irma..we had found Irma on shore, molting away, but, NO KERMIT. Then at 7:40am, we spotted the seal coming from west side, passing Irma, down to Tower Two where Irma was YESTERDAY. Then the seal who was Kermit, turned, made its way to 1708, looking up on shore. He saw one of my old seal sculptures, he looked at it, came a shore, right up to the sand seal. Sniffed it out, bobbed his head up and down, then layed next to the sand seal. So cute. And he remained there the rest of the day. Irma was about 100 ft from Kermit. She also remained at her location all day.
Miss Ewa Girl showed up at Kalaeloa area, near the surf school as usual. Funny, her pup Kekoa Alii went home to his birth spot Yesterday.
We went back Leeward and found M and M, on her back, alone and on the rocks, snoozing her heart away. She is getting so plump...and guess who daddy could be..RIP RR70, he followed her all over leeward side for a month.
And our last seal, our beloved BENNY RE74, who is molting at 50% and was at 3rd Dip Yokes. He had just done a molt earlier in July??? I cant believe this animal...molts alot, unlike the others at once a year. Amazing. I wonder, if he moves so much, travels Inter Island all the time..so his body gets this work out forcing him to molt several times. Gosh, we got so much to learn with these Monks..
Benny looked cute out there all alone, making these low tone throat sounds, kind of like KP2 when he was at the Aquarium. I could see his throat, going for broke, like pumping in and out. Kind of sounds like a low tone such as a bull frog.
We had a great seal day..I love those days..its so fun. I love doing Monk Seal work..lots to learn.
