7-17-11 DB Dailies

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0637 I found what would prove to be Nani (RK60) and Kolohe (RW22) basically right where I'd found them yesterday, out on the water front rocks, 60 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet. Kolohe was visible right from the start, but Nani was once again down in her tide pool hole, and all I had for most of the day was an occasional face looking up over the edge, and a hind flipper flex once in a while. It would be 1341 before she finally move up into full view, and both moved up onto the beach. There was minimal interaction out in the shallows , but once one the beach, Kolohe remained close but there was no observed contact. Now that Nani is on her own, I've noticed more time spent in the water, and more time nosing around in the shallows and tide pools, looking for small prey items.

Team Billand checked in at 0756 to advise that posse member Clay Gates, had reported T21M at Iroquois Point. At 0816 the Billands reported Irma (R010) at Paradise Cove, KoOlina. They were back to KoOlina in response to an mistaken call about Irma having departed. She was very much there. Unfortunately, she was run off by 3 local kids at 1218. Though I personally would have chosen a baseball bat, Robert chose to lecture them on the error of their ways instead.

There was a 0915 called from Dera about an overnighter animal at the Ewa Beach Park, and a follow on call reporting that the animal had departed, before the Billands could get there. Who ????? (my dollar is on Rocky but ???????)

At 0936 the Billands checked in again to report Max (R5EW) at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park.

Marilyn (Mrs. Whisperer) did the Ka'ena Point trek today and found Pohaku (RO29), Kerby (RW08), and 761 at the end of the world. She said she saw no hook on 761, but the animal kept her face in the water the entire time, so the shots can't prove it.
