7-26-11 Ewa Girl and Kekoa

Team Billand out at the reef runway today... I know Barb was concerned about Ewa Girl heading off and Kekoa being on his own... Well we know its anytime now, my "guess" is this week. I do think this pup is a strong independent, so we'll have to see how he does when Mom does leave. We also now Ewa Girl raises some healthy and strong kids. Time will tell.

Needless to say Team Billand got some GREAT shots. Nice Job!

I dont know why I felt so stressed if Ewa girl was going to leave TODAY??? I just did. I worry for every seal..I am a worry wort.
In these shots of Kekoa Alii, he was being attacked by a persistant crab, that nibbled at his flipper, his snout and Kekoa Alii got sick of it, tossed it with his flipper. Funny. Miss Ewa girl is deflating, pup expanding, OBESE already. Kekoa can hardly move, takes little galumphs at a time. Oh but such a cute baby, EG, such a great Mom, very attentive. All we saw was one feed and the rest of the time...SLEEP! And at our first approach to the beach, no seals. Both were snuggled at the rocky point all the way to the right side. Kekoa rolled down from Mom, made his way up shore, followed by mom for a feed. Kekoa moved up after the feed, mom once again followed him, all the way up to the POT on shore. Seemed like a short visit today...The only witnessed ACTION???? The crab with Kekoa Alii. But...so grateful we had a nice observation with the great MONK SEALS OF HAWAII. And security said, another seal with a transmitter, visited the Pup and Mom on Sunday morning, just a quick inspection with Ewa girl. In the end of our visit, Mom and Pup, were snoozing in an area, easily seen from the road. Guess they know, high tide coming. Weaning is coming for sure...maybe in a couple of days, we'll see.
