5-22-11 DB Dailies

At 0633 I found M&M (R020) at the far left end of the beach, on Rabbit Island. There was no pup today, but at least we know where M&M was , which is of great comfort.  She would be joined at 0903 by Buster (RV08), who remained at a respectful distance.
(DB- where is our Ewa Girl.... she usually has a pup before M+M... this will be the first year in a long time since she missed birthing on Rabbit Island).
At 1030, RIP (RR70) hauled out to join the other two. Naturally, he and Buster had words, and Buster took off, at 1044. I did not see him again today. M&M rebuffed RIP, and he too departed at 1052, however he returned to join her again at 1117 and remained the rest of the day.

Team Billand checked in at 0630 with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Maili Pt.  At 0747 they found Benny (RE74) and Makaiwi (R4DF) hauling out together fronting 1806 at Nimitz Cottages.  At 0822 they would be joined by Kermit (R4DG). As you can well imagine Benny wasn't goin' for that, so he and Kermit had words. Kermit would depart at around 0900, and haul out again just down the beach away at Wind Sock, where he spent the rest of the day.

Diane Gabriel with hubby Gabby, did the Ka'ena Point trek today. She reported yesterday's hooked seal, which appears to be CeeCee (T401),as well as Ka'ena (RO40), and Noa (R6FI) at the end of the world.

In the yesterday's news department, Kelly Evans sent photo evidence of Right Spot at Right Spot's Spot, at Turtle Bay, as well as RI37 at Sunset Beach. (Kellygirls adventure is posted)
I got photos of what appears to be CeeCee (T401) with a fish hook in the left corner of his mouth from Craig Greiner, and more photos today of the same animal from Christine Bunch

Marla Berry, an associate of Marilyn's at UH, also emailed to say she'd seen 5 animals at KP yesterday, one of which was the hooked animal. She provided photos of only T15M, and Ka'ena.
Last but not least, Happy Birthday to my #2 son, Mojo (RI17), who turns 7 years old today.

Your question about "Where is Ewa Girl" is a good one, this year. Her short term history has usually included lots of time at Hanauma Bay, and that has seemly come to a halt. She has been seen much less frequently, even in the SW Quadrant, than in years past. She may have found Oahu hiding places, or may be sneaking off to interisland spots. Only Ewa Girl Knows !!

As for her pupping history, yes she has had a gang of pups on Rabbit Island, but she has also pooped pups from the Big Island to Niihau. As for her timing, relative to M&M.. Ewa Girl appears to be right on schedule. Tracy and I have our dollars on June 10th. Where is the biggy question.

Two years ago Ewa Girl gave birth before M&M at Rabbit Island, however since M&M took last year off, the timing of this years delivery date is off track from 2009. Since M&M has arrived at RI, it's quite likely that she is there for a reason. I'll be venturing out on today's adventure shortly, and maybe today will be the day. Only M&M knows ! DB
