On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0633, I could see a very large animal on the beach, fronting 3BS. An ID was impossible in the morning light. I also found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) up in the Morning Glory behind SRI. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0840 it became immediately apparent that I had a really Phat Chick at 3BS. At 0908 she rolled to show me that big, beautiful N23 bleach on her left side. M&M (R020) was back ! Her last stay at Rabbit Island began on 6-25-09 when she gave birth to a daughter, Mikala (RA14). She weaned the pup on 8-3-09. Tragically, Mikala was found, murdered in a Lay Net at Bellows on 4-13-10. She was 9 months old.
M&M spent most of her time after that from Ka'ena Point to Billand country in the SW Quadrant, but stopped in for Rabbit Island visits for a few days in October of 09 , and again for a few days in January and then August and September of 2010. Her last visit to RI came on 9-5-10, until this day. Since she took last year off, in terms of pupping, a due date is a bit "iffy". While only M&;M knows, I'd say that this girl is ready to download, and she is back to the spot she needs to be, soooooo ????????
On my 0717, Spitting Cave check I found Kolohe (RW22) doing 7 minute dives.
I returned to Makai Pier at 0840, and at 0905, Buster (RV08) hauled out to join M&M at 3BS. They had a few words, and M&M definitely laid down the law. There was no further interaction after that, but Buster remained close all day. Team Billand checked in at 0755 with the report of Makaiwi (R4DF), fronting #1703, at Nimitz Cottages.
At 1021 Dana called with the report of an animal at Secret Beach, KoOlina. She advised that volunteers Vera & Glenn Cober were on scene. Linda Staton pulledthe next shift. Team Billand confirmed the RO28 ID at 1034.
