5-10-11 DB Dailies

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0641, I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) up in the Morning Glory, behind Seal Rock Inlet. He would later move down, allowing the ID. He was the only RI resident today.

At 0713 I found Kolohe (RW22) at Spitting Cave. Shortly thereafter , at 0721 I became aware that Buster (RV08) was there with him. Though they were doing underlying 7 minute foraging dives, there were lots of shorter dives, when play was involved.

At 0746 Dera called with the report of an animal in Hauula. Dana checked in at 1431 to advise that volunteer Patricia Canterre had reported the R5AY had just entered the water. I do not not know if photos will be coming, but apparently "Hawaii News Now" (Ch# 5/7/8) is doing a Monk Seal story tonight with footage so hopefully something can be gleened from that (thank you Stacey). Nope... the story had Kermit footage from WP a couple of days ago.

Team Billand checked in at 1549 with the report of Kermit (R4DG) at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park. Team Billand checked in at 0822 with the report of 2AW at Makaha. At 0936 they found Irma (R010) once again at Wind Sock. She may well have overnighted. At 0951 they found Makaiwi (D#13) fronting #1701 at Nimitz Cottages. She would be joined by our ol' pal Benny (RE74) at 1214. At 1047 the Billands reported Max (R5EW) at "Barrels", which is about 1/2 mile to a mile(or 50 miles if you are walking it) past the Nimitz jetty, at the end of the runway.

An evening email from Dana advised of an U/U animal at Rocky Point today. No other info.

I want to say, the Cabin Ladies have been so helpful to us on the beach with Makaiwi. They will watch out for her if we are gone with another seal. The other day, Makaiwi moved 300 feet to the west, and our Cabin ladies were there to redo our signs and ropes. THey will also keep folks away from going into the seal zone, advise folks who are harassing Makaiw. We so appreciate our Cabin Ladies and as of yesterday, THey want to join our organization. Even if they live in the Mainland, on visits to Hawaii, they can be our volunteers. They get the job DONE. THANKS CABIN LADIES...you are all AWESOME human beings.
