5-17-11 DB Dailies Update

At 0633, on my first Rabbit Island look, I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) up in the Morning Glory behind Seal Rock Inlet.  On my 0727 Spitting Cave check I found Kolohe (RW22) doing 7 minute dives. On his last two ups, he appeared to be moving to the point. This usually indicates that the animal is departing, but he was still there when I departed at 0900.

When I got back to Makai Pier at 0947 I found that Duke had moved down into Seal Rock Inlet, and that Buster (RV08) was now the on the water front rocks, 60 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet. Her (his?) D#7 molt is 85%.

On a pan at 1223 I became aware that Duke was gone. At 1225 he did a partial haul out to Buster's location, and both entered the water at 1226. At 1229 I became aware that there were 3 animals playing in the water. At 1239 I got a glimpse of Kolohe's right side natural bleach, while he was playing with Duke. Duke and Kolohe hauled out together 60 ft right of 3BS at 1308. I did not see Buster again today.

At 0751 Team Billand reported Kermit (R4DG) at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach. At 0804 they found Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting #1806, Nimitz Cottages.  At 0823 they found Max (R5EW) at Kermit's Reef , on the west side of the Nimitz Jetty, but before they could get there, he was run off by a lady's 3 dogs. They would later find Max fronting #1813, Nimitz Cottages, at 0915.

Dana checked in for the first of many calls , at 0812 with the report of a Hot Line call, from somebody named Heather of "N29" (RI37) near Pohaku Loa Way (between Laniakea and Chun's). I don't know if there will be confirming photos or not.   At 0954 Dana called again with the report of an U/U at Hukilau Beach (Laie) that an unspecified volunteer said had just been run off. The volunteer was attempting to follow, but I heard nothing further on his call.   Also at 0954 Dana reported that Joy Silver was with an animal at 3 Tables (Shark's Cove. At 1138 Dana called with a Right Spot ID. Awaiting photo confirmation.  Dana called again with a report from volunteer, Vera, reporting an animal at Secret Beach at Ko Olina. Team Billand would confirm the ID as RO28 at 1352. Dana further confirmed at 1541.

Ace Posse Person, Jen Christian, along with hubby Jeff, did a Kauai adventure this weekend, and Jen has provided outstanding photos of Rocky (RH58)& Pup. Note the Belly Bleach on the kid. Ya' Done Good !!!

Is Pohaku a girl or a boy?

Howzit ! Pohaku (RO28) is a 5 yr old female. A transplanted Kauai girl.

On another subject, I put Makaiwi's molt status (85%) in the wrong paragraph.... sorry.

Did Pohaku transplant herself or was she translocated?

Thanks DB! I thought it was something like that, but then again you know what happens when you assume things... :-)

RO28 made her way to Oahu on her own as you will find many of these seals go inter-island on a regular basis... Although the "seal whisperer" can tell you when she was first spotted on Oahu.
