On a routine pan at 1252 I suddenly found a new arrival....no, 2 new arrivals at Rocky Right Beach at the far right end of RI. It would take a while but the lead animal would prove to be Sadie (RB12) . The animal behind her must remain an U/U. It never moved out from behind the water front rocks. All I can say with certainty is that it had a dark ventral side, suggesting a possible RIP or M38, but I have absolutely nothing at all to base that opinion on, except belly color.
On a routine pan at 1254 I found Buster (RV08) just hauling out to the right end of the Middle Cliff. He remained only 2 minutes, before rolling back to the water. He then hauled out to the far left end of the beach at 1310 , where he remained the rest of the day.
At 0749 Team Billand checked in with the report of Makaiwi (R4DF), fronting 1703 at Nimitz Cottages. This is D#5 of her molt. At 1005 they found Max (R5EW) fronting #1775 at White Plains. Max would depart that location at around 1300, and haul out a couple of hundred feet from Makaiwi at Nimitz Cottages at around 1420. The Billands responded to a Dera call at 1035 about an animal at Ko Olina. When they arrived at Secret Beach at Ko Olina they found a cordoned area, but no animal. Witnesses said that it had been run off by people getting too close.
Posse member Jen Christian checked in at 0929, just preparing to venture down to Larsen's Beach on a Kauai weekend getaway. She promises photos on Tuesday when she and hubby , Jeff, get back. Ya' Done Good , Jen !
In the "Yesterday's News" department, I got mail from Posse Person, Kelly Evans, who trod to the "End of the Earth", on the Kahuku side, on an Ua Malie Quest , but alas found nobody, except fishermen witnesses who say they see her in the "High Rock" area somewhere in the vicinity of Marconi Rd, on a regular basis. She has also been reported there by posse member Dennis Kunkel on is hikes. Thank You Kelly, and those fabulous , magic , purple shoes !
Team Billand's yesterday also failed to make the dailies. A severely parred down sample of their shots show yesterday's cast of Makaiwi (R4DF) & Max (R5EW) at Nimitz Cottages, and Kermit (R4DG) a Wind Sock. D#4 of Makaiwi's molt appears to be in the 45% range.

We are sad to see our dear Seal Buddies leave us yesterday. In the days they spent with us, taking care of he seals was awesome. Sue, Jan, Shirley and Becca were great cabin volunteers. They all will be missed. We could have used them YESTERDAY again with all those parties going on, all those children swimming in front of Makaiwi. And when Max came in, several beach goers told us they ran up to him immediately...until we arrived with our protection zone. So long Cabin Ladies of Nimitz Beach..You were AWESOME, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.
Photo is of Sue and Makaiwi..last few minutes at Nimitz Cabins. God bless you guys, may we meet again. Flipper hugs.....
Thank you Cabin Ladies.... you got to see and experience something special. AND you met Barb and Rob, two people with the biggest hearts.
da blog lady
Barb and Robert are exceptional people. They educated us about the monk seals and shared their experiences with us.
Thanks to Barb and Robert
