5-27-11 DB Dailies

At 0640 I found MM (R020) and Pup at mid beach, above Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island. Also there, though 30 ft left of Mom & the kid, were Kolohe (RW22) and Duke (RA12). In my shots they appear all together, but they maintained a 30 ft separation all day. The rising tide in the afternoon, force Kolohe and Duke to move up and away from Mom & the kid. All remained the entire day.

Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting #1806 at Nimitz Cottages, at 0746.
At 0920 they reported that Benny (RE74) had hauled out to join Makaiwi. Hopefully, I got this right... Barbara called to say that Benny had departed Makaiwi at 1206, and hauled out to join Kermit( who had been at #1706, White Plains since 1030), at 1209. Kermit and Benny had words, as is usually the case, and Benny departed WP at 1244 moving off to the west. At 1316 Barbara reported Benny hauling out to rejoin Makaiwi at Nimitz Cottages. They departed together at 1810.

Barbara called at 1837 to advise that they were responding to Germaine's Luau Grounds on a Dana called about an animal there. Team Billand confirmed Max (R5EW) at 1855.

In the Yesterday's News department, Tracy sent shots from the Ka'ena Point trek that she and Dera undertook yesterday. The didn't find CeeCee (T401), but did find Ka'ena(RO40), and verrry chunky Kerby(RW08), Noa(R6FI, RI37 and T15M.

It was yet another full days work with the seals of the swq. I want to thank the ONE VOLUNTEER, who gave up a few hours of her time to help us out. Thank you from our hearts, Rachel Diaz!!! Thanks for keeping an eye on Kermit, and the very busy..BENNY. It is always drama with THE BENNY. He bugged Makaiwi first, left to bug Kermit next at Plains. Then, thanks to your observation and running after the Benny, your phone call made a difference. We turned around, instead of going to plains, returned to Nimitz with Makaiwi, sat there and waited for ... The Benny. He arrived around that corner of the two bunkers, bobbing like crazy. And for some reason, BEFORE Benny arrived, Miss Makaiwi was going Bannana's at Nimitz. She was slapping the earth, moving 100 feet one way, then rolling in the sand, snorting, looking. And then, there was good old horny .. Benny. This time he came up, sniffed her da kine, then went to sleep. But, Makaiwi was silly and teasing THE BENNY. She rolled to him, put her head on his but area, he in turn, jumped at her and they had some words and mouthing sessions. Miss Makaiwi felt hurt, went to the waters edge and stayed there. But Mr. Benny kept his eyes on her the whole time. And when Makaiwi left at 6:10pm, Benny followed very closely. They went off into the sunset...we all watched from a shore. Finally they were gone. But we still had Kermit..and he just remained at White Plains, ALONE. As we were leaving Plains, one last call came from Dana Jones of a seal Germains, so we took off to Campbells. And there we met up with tourists, security and ..... LITTLE MAX, snoozing. So happy to see him again, even if so late. Hadnt seen him for two days..we were very worried. Ok, thats all folks....Thanks again...Rachel Diaz!!!!
