6/6/2010 DOCARE

Sadly this is another incident when DOCARE wasn't able to show up... So, whats the solution?  I don't have the answers... I would love to hook up an intercom system onto the island... "Hey #$%$# get off the island NOW!"

Just as I dreaded, man on R.I. WITH EWA GIRL AND HER PUP. Is there anyone out there that can contact the military about the situation on R.I???? Those guys are just around the corner, they got all kinds of boats, jet ski, to get out there when needed. How come NOAA doesnt do anything about this situation??? I always say, if there is a PROBLEM, FIX IT RIGHT AWAY!! This is getting dangerously scarey!!! What if Lifeguards could help, just by going to the Island when needed to get those ASS HOLES off...with a Megaphone..."Leave the Island at Once, you will be arrested". But it would be much better if the Military were in full gear, with guns, to scare these bastards off!!! Where is Rambo??? Remember, R.I. is a FEDERALLLY AND STATE PROTECTED AREA!!! DO something!!! Do we NOT CARE??? BAH!!!

Send a link to Senators Hee, Tokuda, Bunda, Fukunaga, Kokubun, and Takamine, members of the Water, Land, Agriculture, and Hawaiian Affairs Committe regarding the numerous times that people have landed on Rabbit Island and been observed harassing the seals. Tell them about the lack of response from DOCARE and remind them about the legislation they passed to protect the Hawaiian Monk Seals.

I guess the only way to get anything done is to write letters and ask questions...

A few questions..It is posted, correct ? What can really happend to intruders, can they be legally and criminally charged as tresspassing ?

Today the island is a protected bird sanctuary and during the spring and summer the island is a breeding area for thousands of sooty terns, brown noddies., wedge-tailed shearwaters, bulwers petrels, adn red-tailed tropic birds. Manana Island is a protected bird sanctuary and therefore it is not legal to land there unless you have permission from the Hawaii Department of Land Natural Resources.

There are 3 HUGE signs that say no landing... and yet people who do feel the need to pose and take a picture by the sign.

I do think the real issue is a shortage of resources... We need to write.. we need to let the legislators know they have to find the $$$ for DOCARE officers... If Hawaii wants to protect its resources it needs to increase the number of people who are AUTHORIZED to enforce the rules and laws.

Having said that... I still think an intercom system is a great idea.
