6/13/2010 Dr. Charles tags a Kauai Male... iKermit is off the Radar

Aloha All-

The NMFS HMS Research Program just got back from 5 days on Kauai trying to find seals to track with cellphone tags. Despite a huge effort by the team, Mimi, Michele and volunteers from both monk seal teams on the island, we were only able to get one tag out. We did get some new flipper tags out (including KP2's
mom) and some bleaching done, so that made the effort worth while. We still have tags we need to put out and I plan on getting some of them on Oahu seals in the next two weeks.

I know some of you are interested in a Kermit update. Right now I don't know where he is. My last tag update was about the same time as his last sighting. The last location I have is up the coast near Makaha. It is a very good chance that he headed over to Niihau so we won't see or hear from him until he is back
on Kauai or Oahu. As soon as I see something on the computer I will let you know.

Meanwhile. Here is the first map from the unknown adult male we tagged on Kauai this week. We thought he might head to Niihau, but it appears the Oahu folks might be seeing him soon.
Cheers,
Charles

Correction...Kauai unknown male is already here. Arrived at Kaena Point this weekend.

THanks Charles. We will be on the look out for another cell tagged seal. This is very exciting and we look forward to finding or perhaps just sighting this new seal. I am sorry to hear no Kermit Report, but we still search and hope for his arrival soon. As you know, Kermit is a seal that means alot to us. Appreciate info and all the work you guys do.
