Also at 0610 , to my surprise, I found a Green Sea Turtle hauling out and moving up into the depressions , 50 ft right of 3BS. I used to think those depressions were made by Monk Seals, but a couple of years ago, George Balazs (THE Turtle Guy) taught me that they were turtle nests, which the seals use. Today marked the first time I'd actually seen a Turtle dig a nest and lay eggs. This was a 3 hour undertaking. As she was moving back down to the water line, at 0752, she met Duke, who was newly hauled out and moving up to join Sadie, 20 ft right of 3BS. Incidently, Sadie had watched the whole throwing sand thing as the turtle was digging and was very intent, though she did not go to investigate. Duke seemed fascinated with the turtle as she moved by, but he did not approach. After the turtle had reached water, Duke moved up to Sadie. Her D#6 molt is 40%. They spent the rest of the day together.
At 1244, Kolohe hauled out at the right end of the beach and remained there all day.
At 1320 Buster hauled out briefly to join Duke & Sadie, but departed after only a couple of minutes. He then swam down to do an even more brief haul out to Ewa Girl & pup. He had barely touched sand before Ewa Girl gave him "the look", and he rolled back to the water. He then moved back down to Sadie & Duke where he spent the rest of the day.
Team Billand called at 0830 to report a 100% molted, Makaiwi at the 1st bunker on the west side of the Nimitz jetty.
Their next call came at 1205 with the report of Benny at Yokes.
Dera called at 0845 to advise of an animal at Rocky Point on the North Shore. It would later be confirmed as Right Spot.
