4-3-11 DB Dailies

My first pass through the SE Quadrant was a bust. At 0750 Marilyn and I found what would prove to be BG (R303) doing 8 minute dives at Spitting Cave. I would not get the ID until I checked my photo database at 1500. Her last sighting had been at Ka'ena Point of 2-1-11, from a Flickr photo. She may well be doing one of her Molokai trips. Her ID is based on a right neck/head scar and a left mid body scar. She would depart SC at 0901.

While I was at Spitting Cave I got a call from a fisherman posse
member reporting an animal at "Irma's Grotto" on the Kokee Flats. When I arrived at 0830 I found Irma (R010) waiting for me.

When I got back to Makai Pier at 1000 I found Duke (RA12) at 3BS, and Kolohe (RW22) at Seal Rock Inlet, on Rabbit Island. They would remain all day.

At 1020 posse member Stacey Stella called to advise that one of her no doubt millions of "Facebook Friends" had posted a Monk Seal sighting ,
15 minutes ago, at a sandy spot near the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. Stacey and I leap frogged each other and covered every inch of the territory from the Blowhole Lookout to AD's. We found nobody. With the (at the time) U/U having departed  SC earlier, it was a distinct possibility that it was a good call.

Team Billand called at 0738 to report Kermit (R4DG) hauling out at Campbell Industrial Park. They also say another U/U off shore that never hauled out. That was the last word from Team Billand. They are now carrying all their money to deliver to Sam Boyd's in Vegas, next week.

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 1000, I found Kolohe (RW22) and Duke (RA12) together , 50 ft right of 3BS. They would remain all day. Team Billand had one of their usual days, finding 2AW at Electric Beach at 0833. Next it was Kermit (R4DG) at Wind Sock. At 0924 M&M (R020) hauled out between the bunkers just to the west of Wind Sock. On their 1359 check they found R018, Max (R5EW) and Makaiwi (R4DF) at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park. An afternoon email from Dana advised that volunteer Judy had confirmed KC (RK28) somewhere in the wilds of Waialua. Marilyn did the KP trek today, and found Kerby (RW08) at the end of the world.

News from Molokai

Aloha All,
Great news…….RI15 pupped on 3/28.  This is the 2nd pup of the season there. Mom and pup seem to be doing fine. This female had W00 in 2008, T00 in 2010 so we’re hoping that Tracy will be able to tag this pup K00. She is also the youngest mom on record, having been 4 when she first pupped.
Life is good on Molokai!!!  Diane

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island, from Makai Pier, at 1000, I found Duke (RA12) at the far left end of the beach, and Kolohe (RW22), 50 ft right of 3BS. They would both remain all day

Dera called at 0934 to advise of an animal at Chun's on the North Shore. Dana called at 1047 to report that posse member Joy Silver had confirmed R5AY, for the 2nd consecutive day.

Team Billand found 2AW at Makaha at 1024.  At 1107 they found Noa (R6FI) at Maili Point. They found Kermit (R4DG) and Makaiwi (R4DF) together at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park.
