12/18/2016 DB's Dailies: Kolohe,Aukai,Kea,Kawena@Rabbit Island, Kawena@Makai Pier, Kaiwi@Spitting Cave, Buster@China Walls, Benny@Lahi Lahi

When I arrived at Makai Pier at 0730 I found Kolohe (RW22) snoozin’ , 50 ft right of 1BS on Rabbit Island.

 At 0804 Aukai (RL12) hauled out to 1BS, but shortly thereafter returned to the water, only to haul out again, this time for the day, at Rocky Right Beach. I could see her N12 bleach, but Nikon couldn’t.

 Marilyn called at 0822 with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) foraging at Spitting Cave. ID was by her N96 bleach, as well as her NB on the top of her head.

 Marilyn checked in again at 0850 reporting Buster (RV08) snuggled into the Naupaka at China Walls. ID was by his left eye scar.

 At 0845 Kea (RN46) hauled out of Seal Rock Inlet. He galumphed up to the vegetation line and searched they are for others. Finding nobody he returned to the water. At 0900 he hauled out to Kolohe. They both entered the water for a swim/play session. Kolohe would return to his same location, and Kea would haul out to 1BS for the day.

 The highlight of my day began at 1057 when I heard security/fisherman posse member Bryan , excitedly calling “DB....seal!, DB...seal!” from the back side of the building. I ran out to the other side to find Bryan pointing to a little animal foraging just off the breakwater. One of the other guys said he’d seen an N36 bleach on the side. I just had time for a single quick shot. Though the shot is inconclusive, there is zero doubt in my mind that it was Kawena . At 1213 Kawena (RH36) would haul out to the left end of Rabbit Island.

 Team Billand checked in at 1213 with the report of a rapidly molting Benny (RE74) once again at Lahi Lahi, Makaha.
