The morning began with a report of 2 seals behind the Hale Koa Hotel at 0620. Brittany responded and found only 1 seal hauled out. She quickly identified the seal as a female. Brittany and Colleen later confirmed the Rocky (RH58) ID by visible bleach mark on left fore flipper and cc scar above her right nipple. At 0708 a report came in about a seal on the south side of Maili Beach near the rocks. Melina responded and found Nihoa (R912) at Guard Rails. Karen T. checked in at 0941 with a report of Lei Ola(RH48) at the Keiki Pool. At 1012 Carola received word that Ka'ale (RH32) was at the birth beach. Gail checked in at 1041 with a report of Kawena (RH36) at Alan Davis. Kawena was resting on the beach. At 1817 a report came in about a seal hauled out east of the Diamond Head Beach showers. No ID could be made at the initial sighting.
Karen T. checked in via email from the Keiki Pool. When Karen arrived at 0850 Lei Ola (RH48) was not around. The tide was low but starting to coming up. Karen was about to walk over to the elbow when she appeared in the east reef pool. Lei Ola was observed foraging along the reef. She eventually hauled out at 1130 and went to sleep.
Melina check in via email from Guard Rails in Maili. Melina found Nihoa (R912) ID was made by her bleached left fore flipper nails. She is resting well. At 1610 Melina went back to check Nihoa. She was in the same area, but facing the ocean and sleeping. There were two fishermen fishing off the rocks close by Nihoa remained undisturbed when Melina departed at 1630.
