At 0731 Team Billand advised that posse member Clay Gates had called them to report that T21M and Rocky (RH58) had overnighted at IRQ. Also at 0731 the Billands advised that they had received calls from Dera, and Janitor John reporting an animal at White Plains. When they arrived they found Max (R5EW) between the east end fence and Tower #1. At 0850 Team Billand found a 25% molted Benny (RE74), fronting #1777 Nimitz Cottages.
At 1033 Dera called the Billands about an animal at KoOlina. When they arrived they found Irma (R010) once again on the rocks at Paradise Cove. At 1306 they reported that Irma had been joined by R018, just as he had on the last PC visit on 7-18-11

Many thanks to Jim Brown, Heather Tippon today for White Plains and Ko'olina responses. Yesterday and Tuesday to Rachel Diaz and Deena Gary. All there for team Billands finds. Thank you volunteers for being there and for your help on watching after ALL these Westside critters.
We were with the critters at Koolina since 10:40am and we got tired and really hot. So, I was wondering, when Heather Tippon came and took watch at 4:30pm what happened after our watch? How long more did Irma and R018 remain? And if she had any problems after our departure.
Most folks were great out there today, but, there were some guys who didnt follow our posted signs and passed them. We put the signs in the water, same as Sunday, but today the signs were being floated with the currents. Dont know how else to block off the folks in the cove, keep them from getting too close. We tried so hard to protect Irma the pregnant female and R018 who was pursuing Irma, climbed up on rocks with her and remained allllll day long. They only had a few words as he arrived, then it was siesta the rest of the time. And before Irma landed, we went on a call from Dera, saying Police reported a seal at Paradise Cove. But upon arrival no seals. It was run off by folks and their running over to take photos so the seal took off.
But I guess Irma needed to haul up badly and rest, as she returned alone at 11:49am per security. I kept looking out for R018 and sure enough, I saw him lurking around and then hauling up, nice and slow. Then he tucked his fat butt, next to Miss Irma. So cute. Two blimps on rocks at Paradise Cove. Today we got toasted out there it was so hot!! Paradise cove got so many turtles, coming in and out, and close to folks, some petting them. Tsk.Tsk.
I can understand the seals liking Paradise Cove, it is an amazing place of life and beauty. There was one dog there, yep a cute one.Didnt think dogs were aloud there. Hmmm.
Hey Jim Brown, thanks for watching Max for us, we wanted to be there, but, Irma needed attention too. Poor Benny stayed by himself, we went to check on him at 5:30pm and he was still there, looking pretty goofy molting. As we were about to leave, and while adjusting the poles, he hauled up very slowly..Benny aint the benny we know. He was pretty tired, didnt seem to care. We wished him a safe night. Hope no one disturbs him, he needs to just rest and molt. We made one last check with Jim Brown and Max. Max moved further up shore, so guess he will remain on shore for the night too. We were so tired and cooked from the sun, Jim took the last watch with Max...Thanks!! 6:30pm we were pau for the day...PHEW!!! Sorry clay for not getting to Iroquios today...thanks for caring for the critters, awesome shots, by the way...nice job!!
Barbara and Rob, so sorry for not getting to PC any earlier! I was handed off to every person in the PC parking lot with a walkie talkie until someone pointed me in the direction of the sweet parking attendant aunties near the beach access. I did not have any problems with folks after you left. One teenager went too close, and after I got her attention, she said she thought the seals were rocks. Later I was speaking with her Mom and she mentioned her daughter was looking around the rocks for seaweed to feed the turtles. (!) So not just touching the turtles, feeding them, too.
About 15 minutes after you left, a young group of four (one fellow had bright blue rimmed sunglasses – sound familiar?) came through and from the bits of conversation I eavesdropped on, I thought they were talking about you being gone. One said, “I can’t believe you let that old man yell at you.” I can’t be 100% sure it was from an earlier interaction, but I had a feeling it was. After the seals left, I also overheard a much younger kid, who couldn’t have been more than eight, say to his friends, “I wish the seals were still here. I want to throw rocks at them.”
Eight!
Wow, less than an hour into my shift and I witness just a fraction of the disrespect that you see. Felt deep appreciation, once again, for all you do.
Just before 5, the beach got very busy with luau activities and the tide picked up. A band started playing and there was also noise from people talking and laughing. Irma started getting restless. After a couple of pauses and turns, she began to make her exit off the rocks. (The band had just wrapped up “Tiny Bubbles.” Not sure what Irma thought of the performance. Maybe she enjoyed it and wanted to leave on a high note. Only Irma knows!) She perched herself on the edge and waited for a big wave to help her move her body, then was off. No less than a minute after her departure, RO18 perks up, sees her gone, and he quickly makes his way into the water, too. I saw them both bobbing in the cove entrance for the next 15 minutes, then last saw RO18’s satellite tag about 5:30. I couldn’t see with the glare on the water whether they went east or west. - HT
Thanks for watching the seals after we left. We were so hot and tired, just had to leave already.
Yes, PARKING IS A BITCH out at Koolina, PERIOD!!! Wish we could have an area to park for our watches, it would be so much easier. Lately we have to park so far and just walk in, not too fun if we have equipment.
Thanks for your response...its appreciated.
Feeding turtles, touching them, swimming along with them, not a good thing. We watched, folks stand there, turtles swim right up to them. They are very friendly, looking for a hand out. Tsk. Tsk.
As for the kid commenting he got yelled at by the old man, TUFF, he deserved it.
