Aloha Good People! What a wonderful day.... first let me explain that I have a new camera and learning how to use it, but having said that I have gained a whole new respect for Team Billand how they end up with so many great shots, and how they are able to sort through them all.
So I arrived at the airport to meet security just at 10 am... I had to wait a few but soon was escorted out to the site... something surreal about driving through a secure area and past the runways of a major airport.
Once we got to the site, the security guard told me it was the mom, dad and the baby.... I was shocked to see a large adult SOOO close (honestly had to be withing 10 ft.) Everyone was in snooze mode and I did not have a vantage point to see any bleach marks, nicks, or tags... I did manage to move through some of the thick thorny shrubs... but still no luck. I placed a call into the seal whisperer with very little information, but he suspected RIP since he was cruising the area on Thursday. ( I sent pics for his confirmation)
Around 11:20 Mom and Pup made there way into the water for some play, and underwater lessons... the kid did great and when it got a little to far, Mom vocalized to call it back... in the meantime RIP wakes up and attempts to get in the water, in which Ewa Girl let him know to back off... It took him about 20 minutes before he made his way in, and mom and pup headed toward Ewa side of beach....
Approximately 11:50 Mom and pup hauled out... and looked like pup was in nursing mode.... I watched for awhile and at one point though RIP was going to head out, but he circled around and made two attempts to haul out. First one was discouraged by Ewa Girl.... and the second time pup began nursing and I guess he was far enough away.
It was time to leave @ noon. For sure a day to remember and one I really needed to experience.

RIP - Ewa Girl and pup
