HMMA Update from July 17th

The morning began at 0658 with a report about a seal hauled out at Kaimana Beach. Steve responded and identify the seal as a female but was unable to get a positive ID. At 1040 a report was made about a seal hauled out by the Turtle Bay Villas. Don responded and found Holokai (RG40). The ID was made by tag. At 1043 a report was made about a seal swimming in the harbor in Haleiwa. No ID could be made. At 1245 Steve and Jon checked in with a report of Benny (RE74) hauling out at Kaimana's. The ID was made by tag. At 1555 a report was made about a seal at Kaena Point. No further word on the seal's ID.

 Updates via email from Anissa. She checked in after her morning shift at the Mokuleia pup site with photos of Nihoa (R912) and Ka'ale. When Anissa arrived, mom and pup were swimming and foraging in the surf. They would be in the water until 10:05. A fisherman was casting next to the SPZ. Anissa walked over and the fisherman moved further down the beach. Nicole checked in with a report from the Alan Davis pup site. Kaiwi (RK96) and pup slept during her shift. The only movement was to nurse. Don checked in via email with a report and photos of Luana (RN58) at Secret Beach. Karen checked in with photos of Ua Maile (RT10) and PO5. Also found Holokai (RG40) later in the day at Kuilima Cove. Another email report came in about a seal on the Mokes. The seal was ID'ed Nani (RK60). Mahalo to Jo Ann's grandson for getting the positive ID!
