6/7/2014 DB's Dailies: Kolohe,Pua&Kainoa@RI, Duke@SC, RIP@PC, Luana,RK36&BG@KP, La'akea@TB, Haupu@WP

At 0650, from the Makapuu Overview I spied Kolohe (RW22) in the Morning Glory fronting 1BS, on Rabbit Island. When I got down to Makai Pier at 0700 he was no longer visible, however at 0742 Kolohe hauled out to the left end rock flats, and behind him was Pua (RF34).

At 1021 on a pan I found a newly arrived Kainoa (RN04) , 40 ft left of 1BS on RI.

At 1115 Gayle called with the report of Duke (RA12) at Spitting Cave. This is his 3rd consecutive day at this location.

At 0910 Diane T checked in to advise that RIP (RR70) had made a brief appearance at Paradise Cove, hauling out to check out a foxy turtle, and then immediately departing.

Marilyn & Ken did the Ka’ena Point trek today. Marilyn reported RK36 at the Main Pool, and BG (R303) at BG’s Pool, at the end of the world. RK36 was definitely in “cruiser male” mode, moving in and out of the pool several times.

Unfortunately there was other action at KP too. Fishermen there accidently hooked Luana (RN58). They managed to cut the line and immediately called NOAA. NMFS personnel, and volunteers combed the area from KP down to the birth beach, but she was not found today. The hunt will resume tomorrow.

Diane Gabriel called at 1535 to advise that she and Karen Turner had found La’akea (RK82) at Right Spot’s Spot, Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay.

The Billands were on the hunt all day, finding nobody. When they got home they got a call at 1730 reporting a newly arrived critter at White Plain. On the road again. At 1821 they reported Haupu (RB24) fronting #1708, White Plains.
