5-12-2014 DB's Dailies: Kainoa, U/F & Weaner@RI, Haupu&Kolohe@KoOlina, Kolohe@Sec, M&M,RIP@WP, Buster@RR

At 0707 on my first look at Rabbit Island I found what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) up in the Morning Glory fronting 1BS. He would later move down, allowing the ID, and remained at that location all day.

When I got back for my 2nd look I found the U/F hauling out to the left end rock flats. Again I could see no tags, and no visible markers. She too would remain there the rest of the day.

The highlight of the day came on a pan at 0846 when I found Sadie’s pup hauling out to 2BS. After a wait it became apparent that the pup was a weaner (D#39). During it stay at 2BS it did a lot of snoozin’ and lots of playing with sticks. I’ve got my dollar on a female based on multiple looks at the belly, but because observation and photo conditions sucked, I won’t put any cats on that call at the moment.
Tracy was notified and they will be organizing a mission for this week. I made a 1700 RI recheck and the weaner was once again on the beach, 60 ft left of 2BS.

Team Billand called to advise that volunteer Linda had reported 2 animals at Lagoon#1, KoOlina , at 0712. When the Billands got there at 0818 they found only Haupu (RB24), however Linda advised that the other animal , who had departed , was N#1, RIP (RR70)/ At 0716 the Billands reported the arrival of M&M fronting the Snack Shack, White Plains.

At 0838 the Billands reported Kolohe (RW22) at Secrets. He would depart that location and haul out to join Haupu at L#1, at 1019. Dana called at 1737 to advise that they had departed.

At 1210 Team Billand reported the arrival of RIP (RR70) to join M&M at WP. He would depart at 1313.

The Billands advised that Eileen had called with the report of Buster (RV08) cruising the birth beach area at the Reef Runway.

Just watched the video that was great the incident was recorded. Could of been someone in the military if that's the case it should definitely bring a lot of awareness and maybe newly arriving service members would learn about the monk seal .
Would of been funny if he got bit or a least a flipper smack
Who was the seal?
I. Was wondering. Who gets to pick outa name for the new weaner
