5-8-2014 DB's Dailies: Sadie&Pup,Kainoa&M38@RI, Kaiwi@KK, Haupu@Nanakulu, U'ilani&Buster@RR, M&M@WP, T21M@Kaaawa, Benny@Lani's

On my first look at Rabbit Island I found what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) on the left end rock flats. It would take until 1413 to finally get the ID.

At 0900 when I got back to the pier I found Sadie & Pup (RB12)(D#35) snoozin’ at the far left end of the beach on RI. I would oberve 2 swims and 3 feeds today. The kid is huge !! Still on no sex. The kid is giving me a hard time.

At 1122 Melanie called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at Irma’s Grotto, Kokee Flats. Thanks to Melanie and Gayle for another day on the hunt.

At 1212 I became aware of a "swimming head" cruising the beach front at RI. It would prove to be M38. He ultimately hauled out to join Kainoa from 1328 until 1312, before moving on. I did not see him again after that. I’d put a cat on his being yesterdays U/M.

Ocean Safety called at 0912 with the report of an animal at Nanakuli. The Billands would confirm the Haupu (RB24) ID.

At 1030 the Billands reported U’ilani (RN36) about 1 mile from the birth beach at the Reef Runway.

They would report Buster (RV08) at the birth beach at 1058.

Heide called the Billands at 1030 about animals at Lagoon #1 and Paradise Cove. Volunteer Linda responded but found nobody at those locations.

At 1135 the Billands advised that Lifeguards reported the arrival of M&M (R020) to the showers at White Plains.

At 1138 Ocean Safety reported an animal at Yokes. It was gone when the Billands arrived.

Diane Gabriel called at 1140 about Don Porter having found 7GZ/Y at Kaaawa. That is , of course, the ol’ dude T21M.

At 1333 the Billands reported finding Benny (RE74) at Lani’s , KoOlina. Dana advised that he departed at 1852.

My favorite Kauaian, Val Bloy sent some shots of RK22 (KP2's Mom), and her new pup at a secret location on Kauai, born yesterday. Thanks Val, Ya’ Done Good !!! Congrats to the rest of the Kauai Monk Seal gang!

  Kaiwi
RK22 (KP2's mom) being protective of her new born when some pesky males show up posturing for her attention.... so happy her mother instincts are solid.
