5-18-2014 DB's Dailies: Pua,M38@RI, M&M,Benny@WP,

My first look at Rabbit Island was a bust. On my 2nd look, at 0938 I found what would turn out to be M38 at Seal Rock Inlet. I finally got the actual ID at 1429.

At 1334 I found Pua (RF34) just hauling out to the far left end of the beach on RI. Much thanks to Marilyn, Melanie & Gayle for combing the SE quadrant today.

The RI cast would be the only finds. Thanks guys !!!

Team Billand called at 0705 with the report of M&M (R020) to the showers at White Plains.

Volunteer Jean would advise the Billands that another animal had joined M&M at 1054. They would confirm the Benny (RE74) . According the the Billands, White Plains was far, far, far beyond the usual weekend zoo, but the critters remained.

Yesterday THE Donna had reported an animal on Moku Nui. The photos arrived this morning and alas, no ID was possible.

The highlight of the day came with a call from the Billands at 1606. In a conversation with a Kauai volunteer friend they were advised that an animal with an “N1" bleach (that would be RIP, RR70), in the company of a pregnant female, arrived at a secret spot on Kauai . We are awaiting further word, but Pohaku (RB28) has got to be high on the possibles list. She is due on 5-27 and ya’ gotta’ believe that with RIP in tow, it might well be an Oahu girl. Stay tuned. Thank you Team Billand !!!

Volunteers Jean & Larry did the KP trek yesterday as part of the seal count. Their photos confirm Kolohe (RW22), Kerby (RW08), BG (R303) & an U/U at the end of the world. Thanks guys.

The crowd was HUGE out at White Plains. There was a live band playing Music, a hot dog vender, thousands of people every where, tents all set up. INCREDIBLE!!

We knew early morning, this was a big, tuff job to keep watch on our seals..and wouldnt you know, TWO SEALS CAME A SHORE.

We made the zone large...it was to keep kids out, but this one little child, like two kept walking in the zone, DADDY RIGHT THERE. She was giving us a heart attack. NO WORRIES DADDY, its just two monk seals weighing hundreds of pounds and with TEETH. NAH..who cares. They are just fat lazy seals.

Ok so Diane T came to help, then jean Jasina, Laurie Finley..and after that..Terri and Bev.

Thanks to all for being out there...the seals got to stay and rest all day long and beyond. Magic.

Cops came out per our volunteers who said, THEY WERE CALLED TO GET ALL THOSE FOLKS OUT OF AREA. Lifeguards left at 4pm.

We also saw a HFD chopper fly over low, a couple of times..maybe he was checking out the seals too. WHo knows.

Benny hasnt been to Plains in a very long time..He looks firm, robust...healthy. M slept her heart away..making sure Benny didnt hit on her. He did try..but M put Benny in his place with one huge hit to his FACE with her hind flippers. He. He.

I wonder if Benny came..to pay his respects to R018?? Who knows.

Any hows, thanks to all the ladies who helped out at Plains..it was a giant ZOO of humans. Some times I think, Plains should just close the gate, put out a sign.."LOT IS FULL". Like Haunama Bay does. To keep....CONTROL.

Miss you R018...I think of you every day all the time...I miss you. 1707 Plains...looked empty without you laying there...dam it.
