3-17-2013 DB's Dailies:Sadie&Pup(D#4),Aukai,Duke,Nani&Buster@RI, Kolohe&RA36@SC, RI37@Laniakea, Irma@Waikiki, R018@Trks, Benny&Noa@Maili Pt, M&M&Kermit@WP, R5AY@Kualoa BP, Kekoa&U/U@RR

At 0706 I found Sadie&Pup (RB12)(D#4) on the Waimanalo end of Rabbit Island. They would move down near the water line mid morning and remained there all day.

Though I had been totally unaware of him, Duke (RA12) would move down and into view , also at the Waimanalo end at 0951. He remained a respectful distance from Sadie & Pup, but would remain all day.

Also at 0706 I found an overnighted Aukai (RL12) in her cave at Seal Rock Inlet, RI, right where I'd left her yesterday. She moved down to cool off mid day, and remained all day.

Kimo called at 0915 with the report of Kolohe (RW22) and RA36 foraging and playing at Spitting Cave. He reported their movement more into Maunalua Bay at 1003. Posse member Linda Nichols called at 1029 to advise that she was watching two animals foraging and playing off shore of Irma's Grotto, Kokee Flats . They never hauled out.

At 1020, on a pan I found what would prove to be Nani (RK60) just hauling out to the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach, RI. She remained the rest of the day.

On a pan at 1251 to my complete surprise , I found Buster (RV08) out a spot I call "the last greenery", well on the way to the rabbit nose on RI. Critters are out there only rarely, and quite often it will be Buster. He was out there flopped on his back, flippers asplay, about as crashed as a critter can be, lovin' life ! His N21 bleach was easily visible.

Cianna was in my life a lot today. Her first call came at 0645 with the report of RI37 at Laniakea.

Also at 0645, Cianna advised that calls had begun around midnight about an animal in Waikiki. Dana called to advise that Karen Rohter was responding, and would later confirm the Irma (R010) ID. I also heard Jean & Larry's names associated with Irma today. Karen's photos confirm the Irma ID. Thankfully she would depart at 1234. Thank You to each of you. Ya' Done Good !!
Team Billand called at 0741 with the report of R018 at Tracks.

At 0830 Cianna called again with the report of an animal at Maili Point. The Billands would confirm the Benny (RE74) ID at 1013.

At 0839 Team Billand reported M&M (R020) at 1707, White Plains.

At 1115 the Billands reported Kermit (R012) foraging off shore of White Plains. Dana would report Kermit's haul out to #1708 at 1234.

At 1115 Ocean Safety reported an animal with red tags, at Kualoa Beach Park. Cianna responded and confirmed the R5AY ID at 1240 . She has remained the rest of the day.

At 1415 Team Billand reported Noa (R6FI) at Maili Point.

I found a piece of footage on YouTube from 3-14-13, showing Kaiwi & RK36 at Spitting Cave. It's a great opportunity to see markers for both critters. Enjoy !! (see bottom of post)

Yesterday was kind of STRESSFUL. We found R018 early morning, amongst the many many homeless at Tracks. I wish, R018 wouldnt go there...

Cianna called of a seal at Nanakuli, by time we got there, it got run off. But I could see the critter off shore, foraging and doing 4 to 5 min dives. But the id...nah.Then it went out to sea.

M and M was next, Plains 1707 and she would remain all day long till, 5:50pm when she left with the high tide. Thanks Laurie, April and Vera for the help.

We were going to leave Plains but saw the lifeguard scrambling with his quad, so we thought, ok, whats going on??? We ran up shore, there was a seal coming towards us...Kermit, passing all the people in the water. That was 11ish.
But he landed just after 11am in front of 1708 Plains. The folks started to gather for photos, but we kept them back and all were good. He was then, roped off, stayed over night.

In between this time, we had frantic calls from some guys we know for years, saying a humpback calf was separated from MOM. We went to check it out at Nimitz cottages. There we saw the calf, swimming its heart away, trying to reunite with Mom. We observed them for a while making sure all was ok. The calf did reunite with Mom eventually and there were other whales breaching as well. Cool stuff.

Another call of a seal hauled out at Maili BEACH PARK. I called Deb, no response so I called out Venna and Freddie Ferriera..they went out, found the seal which was being harassed by folks out there. Lifeguards taped seal off by time we got there. All was good, with DA BENNY and they said the same seal was out there the day before as well, but, no one called. There were tons of folks at the beach TONS!!

On our way back to SWQ, we spotted NOA R6FI at Maili Pt. ALONE this time and ok.

As for Pohaku Donna...no one called about her at KoOlina at all..she does this go for one to two days some where unknown. We just cant find the spot she hides out at. And Linda had HONU duty at Laniakea, so we dont know if Pohaku showed up at KoOlina. Hope she is ok. THis is one particular seal that worries me...with all the folks who approach her, just for a close up photo.

Again thanks to Laurie, April and Vera for their help!!!
